Hello everyone, happy 2013 to you all :)

Ive been considering getting this lens for some time now. However, I currently have an old Sigma 55-200 DC which my dad gave me. I find this lens to be very soft and the pictures just seem to lack contrast and clarity, even at low ISO such as 200. Would the Canon 55-250 IS be a worthwhile purchase? it seems to be going for a great price on Amazon at the moment. Also, im thinking the image stabilisation would be very useful to me for those long zoom shots.

EDIT: I have a Canon 350D

Hi roderz I've never tried the sigma so can't advise on that. I have used the old non is canon ef70_300 and even when useing a tripod the efs55_250 is a much sharper lens. The is feature on the 55-250 is rated at up to 4 stops so combined with the lightweight its great for handheld use.

Ok cool, thank you for your help :) I may go ahead and get this lens once ive raised the money. Il see if I can sell the sigma somewhere

I've just sold mine as it goes, a very good lens with a nice range of focal length and plus it has IS!

I only swapped as I wanted an upgrade and sold it to fund my 70-200 L
