Canon 5D MK4

Yeah I saw that, a 3 year life cycle would be fine if they are making decent jumps to keep up or pass the competition. Closer harder competition is good for everyone. I have been saving for a 5D3 and lens change. I'm most of the way there. I will watch this with interest.

Hopefully it does come as soon as predicted but i think the price tag will be frightening for us mortals. But if nothing else it'll get some cheaper MKIII's into the 2nd hand market :)

I'll upgrade. Additional low light improvements and dynamic range will most likely be on the cards considering what Magic Lantern gets out of the 5D3 as it is. That and an SD card section that isn't gimped like on the 3.

My 5D3 is 45K+ actuations now and I have been toying with the idea of getting another as backup as opposed to the 7D on standby but if the 5D4 comes out mid next year then that's perfect, the 3 will become the active backup.

I'll be surprised if it doesn't come out about then. Also, I'm not sure if I've been living under a rock, but I just had an email from WEX about the Nikon D810, which I've heard nothing at all about, either on these boards or others I follow, or even on Facebook, etc. £2600 apparently.

That's because The Exception isn't here to ram down our throats about Nikon gear these days :p

I saw a review of it, looks good, just an update to the D800, tweaks here and there, nothing game changing.

I'd have thought DP would have told us :p

I've had a read up on it now. It just looks like they've polished a few bits, although there are quite a few complaining about some changes.

Can't wait to see what Canon do now. They could and hopefully will have a big jump this time round, but as long as they sort the AF so I can see where I'm focusing I the dark, I'll be happy :D

yea i got an email about it and it came out of nowhere.

Thought i was seeing things.

unimpressed by it. Surely they should have released a d900?

O well the 5d4 could potentially blow away the d810 unless nikon will come up with a d900 next year too?

Which leads to believe on why the heck did they release and waste resource and r and d on a d810 if a d900 will come out in a year later? wtf?

I've been busy traveling.
The D810 is not that interesting, really just an S model. New expeed 4 so a little faster and a little more advanced processing (better moire control and to a stop better noise at the highest ISOs). Moving some controls around is just a bit annoying really.
A great camera, but only because the D800/E was so exceptional and the sensor is still unmatched.

5Dmk4 is quite possible. I'm interested in whether it will see a large bump in resolution. canon have done field trials of 42-56MP sensors, originally expected in a 1D body. Lack of a a D800 competitor is costing some sales for canon.

As I've said before, I really don't see this being the case myself.

Customers in the market for a 5D3 or D800 or other body in that price range are very likely to already have a decent investment in one system.

Whilst the D800 obviously has a megapixel advantage, I think the percentage of people who are already invested in Canon but who are prepared to switch systems completely to get the higher resolution sensor will be incredibly small and certainly not enough to make any appreciably dent in Canon's bottom line.

At the enthusiast end you can see on forums that a lot still did stick with Canon, but have since picked up the Sony A7r and adapter to use with their Canon lenses. This isn't statistically a very large segment though! There will be users who will pick a D800 over the 5D3 as a first purchase, but likewise the other way as well. The 5D3 has performed well in sales.

I hope the 5D4 doesn't go the high res route, hopefully they do that with a 5D4s model or something.
