Canon 70-200mm F4 L - just tried it.. big mistake

Order placed with Kerso:

Canon 70-200mm F4 L
Canon 1.4x TC
Hoya 67mm filter

£636.99 all-in, so around £130 cheaper than they were offering me on the high-street. Plus I can get £35 cash-back on the 1.4x TC. So if it arrives ok i'll be pretty chuffed :D

did you pay him through paypal or direct?

do you know when it will be arriving?

Used Paypal, would rather pay the extra for the security.. just in case..

He just emailed to say the whole lot should be with me on Wednesday, woot :D

awesome, please come back and update us on what happens raider.

sounds very good.

was it just an extra 2% for the paypal fees??

Nope, sale price. He gives a discount for not using Paypal, he doesn't charge extra for Paypal. :)

What's this cashback you talk of? Is it connected with buying a new camera, or can anyone get it?

Currently looking at telephotos and deciding whether the 70-200 F4 L is worth the extra money on top of the 70-300 USM IS (and whether I can afford it) :)

Anyone can request a booklet from Canon, details available here >>

Canon Promotion Cash Back Offers

No money off the 70-200mm F4 L, but £35 off the 1.4x TC in the booklet.

I'm hoping to use the £105 voucher on the 300mm F4 L IS too :p

If anyone wants a book of vouchers I have 1 here you can have ,
was going to use it on the 17-40L but can't afford it at the moment :(

Well the kit all arrived this morning, as promised. All seems to be working perfectly :)
Still in the office today, but i'll be off to Cornwall tomorrow to give it good work out. Can't wait!

I just love how fast and swish the internal USM focusing is. :D

nice one, careful not to catch `L` fever though :p

i`m pondering getting a new telephoto, the 70-300 sigma apo I have already is a good lens for the price, but some things have started to annoy me about it
I origionally looked at the 70-200 f4L but I keep thinking, "ahh for only another £250 or so i could get the 2.8L" , then of course once I look at the 2.8L i start thinking , well if i`m spending near £800 I might as well pay an extra £250 and get the IS right?... heh

anyone else have this mentality?

I`m seriously going to have to cut my Egg card in half before I owe another 2k on it :( lol

finally bitten the bullet and order the canon 17-40L from kerso (ian)

he has said it will be here by 1pm friday:) which is nice as i have the weekend off to test it

cant wait

will update thread on friday

Well I've done a few basic tests, albeit in an overcast back garden, but initial results are fantastic!

Crispy is the word! Pin-sharp even wide open at F4.

Will try and post a few basic shots later :D

Ok, excuse the rubbish subjects, but heck these were the first things outside the back door :D

Top one is F5.6, ISO 100, 70mm
Bottom one is F4, ISO 100, 70mm
Better ones soon I hope!

EDIT: Here's a full size image, hasty portrait of my father as he came home from work. Loving the detail! At F4 again:
