I currently have a 300D which I have had for 10 1/2years, have a canon 10-22 and canon 70-200 f4 non-is lenses. Never got around to buying a walk around(use the 18-55 that came with the 300D, have been tempted by the canon 24-105 over the years) or macro lenses.

While a 70D or 7D mki(mkii is too much) would be nice I don't think over the last 10 1/2years my photography or knowledge has come along enough to make use of the added features the 70D and 7D offer over the 760D, plus jessops have 12 months interest free on the 760D not the 70D or 7D.

If you're going to upgrade, I'd go for a 70D.

You can get the 70D with 12 months interest free credit for only £140 more than the store you mentioned (competitors!) want for the 760D, plus there's a £50 cash back offer from Canon at present which brings the difference down to £90.

No brainer if you ask me.

If you've had a camera for 10 years, I don't think you need to worry about the 70d being too complicated or not being able to make sure of all the features.

70d would be my choice :) but I had one before I upgraded to my 7d2

interesting discussion, I'm also considering the 760D as a upgrade for my 650D, mainly for the additional focus points.

I don't really see the point TBH, but I was never one to upgrade unless there was big reasons.

I went from a D70 in 2005 a D90 in 2009 to a D800 in 2014.

The D90 I was debating with a D300 and was what I intended but I couldn't get a good price at the time but saw a great D90 deal.

So really my upgrade path is the next camera had to be at least 2 generations ahead and up 1 model.

I would save your money for a 70D or 7DMK2. Cameras age fast and appreciate, never worth spending much budget on them IMO.

I'm in a similar position. Had a 400D since 2006 and fancy an upgrade partly due to the noisy low light performance and I'd like video too. I've heard that the 70D is the best buy for video (and that the 760D is actually a downgrade from the 700D in video performance). My nagging thought though is that the 70D looks to be overdue a replacement. I don't fancy buying a 70D only to have an 80D released shortly after.

Why would the 70d be due for a replacement? It's not exactly that old :|

I've not seen any rumours of a replacement and even if there was one, it wouldn't be cheap fro a while! 70d seems to be a pretty good deal for the price.

Just a comment I read somewhere about how long the 60D was in production before being replaced and combined with how long the 70D has been on sale. Pretty meaningless really

Yeah I'm not sure how popular the 60d was compared to the 70d but they're fairly different beasts.

I guess it's not out of the realm of possibilities but they wouldn't be in the same price bracket that's for sure :/ The 70d was just over £1k at release so I don't expect a replacement would be any cheaper... At that price I'd be getting a grey import 7d2 instead for a bit more hehe

Well thanks for the replies, for those saying 70D what are the main advantages of it over the 760D?
I've read there is some issue with the auto focus system or something through the view finder, has that been fixed!
Was looking at the 760D due to as already said the price plus it's meant to have gotten some of the features from the 70D and the 7D2, so thought it'd be a good compromise between a beginner/amateur and more advanced user camera. Now they just need to add the weather sealing to their xxxD line :p

The biggest addition the the 70D has over the 760D is micro AF adjust, I couldn't buy a body without that now.

What does it do, why is it so important etc? The name means nothing to those not in the know ;)

Well if you use a lot of prime lenses with wide apertures then the AF accuracy can be hit and miss (front or back focus) due to the narrow DOF. AF micro adjust allows you to correct this and store different profiles for different lenses. Has to be used correctly though as a lot of people mistake their own mistakes for focus issues. It can also still be useful for other lenses as well but is mostly used on primes.

Well thanks for the reply, not sure it'll affect me that much in that case due to the lenses I own(10-22, 70-200 f4l non is)/have on my wants list(walk about, macro).

Well in my experience so far, the Canon lenses I own haven't need much adjustment but like most things, I'd rather have and not need than want and not have :|

Looking at this: http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-EOS-70D-vs-Canon-EOS-760D

There is a good few reasons for the 70d other than microadjust

Some weather sealing - not 1dx or 7d2 level but again better than none
Better viewfinder that covers more of the shot
Higher FPS for sports/action/wildlife
Better battery life

My first try with a dslr was a 400d but it wasn't mine.
It was very small and not the most comfy to use.

My first one I owned was a 60D.
Great price point, good size, really useful top screen.

I had that a year or so and went 70d (for 600 with no lens)
It's so so much better than the 60D I couldn't believe it

AF focal zines, AF speed and most importantly micro AF adjust

As these guys well know I was having a nightmare with my 35mm sigma f1.4 art lens and nearly sold it.
Turns out had a hefty forward focus problem
I adjusted it by 11 points (on a 20 +/- point range) and now it's fine

IInterestingly all my canon lenses were always fine

7d2 was 2x cost nearly and no tilt screen (which I use a lot) so it was an easy decision

Edit
The 70d I should still 600 with no lens and 3y warranty. It is grey but a well reviewed site.

Just wondering about the new sensor on the 760, is this used on any of the existing Canons?

Only the M3 I believe.

Once of the biggest differences between the 760D and 70D will be the physical size. Not sure if you're aware of the difference but it might be worth trying to get your hands on each (or a similar body from each series) to get an idea of the sizes. Many people find the xxxD series bodies too small to hold comfortably.

Whichever one I end up with I'll need new memory card/s, as I have a 300D am using CF which isn't compatible.
What brand and 'model' would people recommend for nonprofessional use(stills and video)?
