Canon concept camera for 2030

I read it this morning. Amazing concept. Only thing is what about wanting to be creative with long exposure and depth of field seeing as it'll only record video.

They'll still be a market for stills cameras as people will find new ways with new technology for creative capture.

Interesting concept but I think it's a little out there, even for 20 years time. I reckon it's really a bridge camera concept not a DSLR concept. At a guess I'd go with the sensor being tiny, which gives the "everything in focus all of the time ness" and the ability to make a small lens able to reach anywhere near 5000mm.

No way is there going to be a camera out in 20 years as high quality/fast (in the aperture sense) as a current DSLR and say 600mm prime (we just need to look at the lenses released in the last 20 years for that, look at the size increases and only marginal quality increases to go with them, at least at the wide/standard end). :p
 
I don't think it would be that bad, however holding the camera would be a massive pain. Think they've taken a leaf out of Apples book and done the whole form over function thing! Could see that camera slipping out of my hands in a few seconds, how would you carry the damn thing when not up to your face too? :p

Interesting but at >10MP resolutions will you really want to be recording footage, I realise will be well into yotabytes etc. by then but really, no stills?

Looks interesting but video only is a negative for me, not a demonstration of how advanced their camera will be
 
Old design seen it before, /cough....

Bet Luigi Colani is smiling.

This body shape was proposed as a design by Colani in the 1980's, whilst he was working for Canon on the T90. It was designated the 5 System.

If you take a look through the pages on this website you will see that his proposed body shape looks remarkably like the 'new' proposal. The picture in the bottom left of page 5 show it best.

Ironically the 5 System body shape morphed into the Canon T90 and if you look at that Camera you can see that it laid down the body design for virtually every single Canon EOS camera since - it was and still is a remarkable camera, light years ahead in design terms when it came out in the late 80's.

I also think that Olympus released a camera in the late 80's early 90's that had a body form similar to the new design - cannot think what it was called at the moment (I'll look through Google Images to see if I can find it).

Edit - found it, the Olympus all in one design, it was the Olympus IS1, released in 1990 and itself a remarkable break from tradtional SLR cameras at the time.

If it captures everything in focus, so that you can zoom in "later" then you can keep it. I will have my 1.2 lenses thanks :)

I rarely wants everything in focus.
 
Now what would be an interesting take on that Raymond, would be if it 'Focus stacked' the shot automatically - ie foreground, subject and background, then combined them together. If you didn't like the 'everything in focus' shot you could discard the sharp background or sharp foreground, giving yourself the ability to alter the look of the photo on the fly.
 
Canon argues you won't need to shoot stills when its video is capable of keeping everything in focus all the time -- you'll just pick out your favorite scene from the movie reel.

OK for an amateur, completely pointless for anyone serious about taking photographs. Any camera that uses electronics to compensate for the physical deficiencies of the lens(es) is always doomed to failure.

Quality glass cannot and should not never be compromised.

About the same as a canon X series dvr, and around $2.5k for the fixed lens version.

Fully modular (the non fixed lens) here it is on a shoulder mount with a wide angle.

That looks evolutionary rather than groundbreaking. I was hoping that it would be something small that you'd clip to the side of your glasses, records 3D or 2D as required, transmits to your phone for local storage on the move (your phone having 4Petabytes of storage), and then backups up by 9G over the internet to your nominated storage site.
Focus to be based upon where you look, DOF changeable by voice command or simply thinking the right thoughts. Playback and review of images to be achieved via a direct feed via the eye into the visual cortex. With it's sensitivity capabilities, can also double as a binnoculars, nightvision and autocorrect for poor eyesight.

Now THAT would have impressed me.

Yeah, the Canon one doesn't seem particularly groundbreaking for twenty years away. You'd think that just to imagine what digital cameras, and technology in general, was like twenty years ago compared to now would have given them a bit more ambition in their imaginings.
