youll only need IS for motorsport if you like a lot of panning.

Yes. The Mk II 2.8 IS ? Can't see where the value has been added.

Only downside to the 2.8 IS is that it weighs a ton but you soon become accustomed to it.

It's a great lens, the 70-200mm F4 is probably the sharpest 70-200 Canon have made, it's lightweight, sharp, quick to focus, and good across the frame. I have done many motocross shoots with it and even with a 1.4x extender on an old 7D mk1 it's very good. IS isn't a problem with motorsport as your usually panning anyway

Here is a very highly cropped image I took with it (its quite low quality due to compression in this image) but I have printed this at 24"x36" and its perfect
