Hello All

My Canon IP4200 Inkjet Printer is getting low on ink so I was looking round for cheap cartridges to replace the current ones when they finally run out. I have found that you can now buy compatable ones at around £6.99 for 5 but you have to take the chip off the current cartidges and put them on the new ones. Has anyone used these or had any expierence with taking chips off one cartridge and sticking them onto another and is it really that easy. Since a full set of canon ones will cost £45 then I guess if its that easy then its worth it ?

Any help is very welcome.

Thanks.

We used to do this with our old Epson (I hate Epsons!!)... we got a kit from the auction site which had the chip extractor and a little tool which 'recharged' the chip ready for the new carts...

It worked though. :)

Yep, I could nearly buy a full printer with the cartidges in for the money.
Has anyone else done the above then ^^^

As you can see, I'm very much in the same position as you. To say I am not amused, is an understatement.

As good as this printer is, I really want to punch it in the ovaries.

If anybody finds any way of refilling the tanks, let me know. I couldn't care less about voiding my warranty, so long as I have cheap ink.

Hiya

I've got a Canon IP5200 (Same Cartridges as IP4200). Although I havent yet, I will be refilling using http://www.jettec.com/. They offer a full refill set for about £8 on different websites and there suppose to be better quality than Canons official inks. Although because your refilling you will loose the the canon ink checking device, so you will have to manually check the ink levels every so often. :)

If Canon's ink checking software is anything to go by, then they can stick it. I have printed plenty of colour CDs since the above warning, and still no signs of it running out.

I reckon it's just a way of making money, as usual.

Not seen any compatables for the 4200 yet. Anyone any ideas on where to get some?
No idea, at all.

Apparantley they're waiting for a supplier of chips to attach to their cartridges, before saying their cartridges are safe to use. But suppliers look to be having problems getting around the chip. :(

Basicly at the minute you just have to take the chips off your original cartidges and put them on the new compatables. How hard can this be

Apparently, it will damage the print heads if you run it all the way to empty. I'm not sure if this caused my previous printer to screw up and end up printing nasty streaks or whether it was the cheapo 49p cartridges I put in it (canon i250). It's put me off cheapo cartridges now. Besides, the cartridges seem to print for a good few prints before needing replacement. I had several months worth of printing before needing to replace anything.

I have noticed that the Canon inks do last a very long time indeed and i do quite a bit of printing! Might be worth getting the Canon inks then.

Still on the look out for ink for my Canon ip4200. Anyone find any compatables?
There is a way, but you will have to void your warranty to use them.

I've just bought a spanking new set of 5 cartridges at £46 (inc. P&P) - which is cheaper than what some places want.

I want these compatibles to be "benchmarked" by people, before I test them.
