Canon movie mode exposure compensation

I seem to have a problem which I can't find the answer to online.

I recently got the 600D and when I'm in movie mode (manual settings with auto ISO) and set the exposure compensation to whatever, it always exposes normally (i.e. +/-0). I've tried with 2 different lenses but same thing.

Just wondering if anyone else knows if this is wrong/can try it to see if it's just mine that's doing this?

Thanks.

Exposure compensation doesn't work in manual mode, as you are using the cameras light metering system manually.

You will be adjusting the Aperture and/or shutter speed and as you have it set to auto ISO its trying its best to create what it believes is the correct exposure. If you go manual ISO you will have full control over the video, which is fairly important shooting on a Canon DSLR as otherwise the ISO will keep changing which is really noticeable on a proper screen.

Hmm, was hoping there would be a solution :( haha.

Yeah, manual ISO is probably what I will be doing. It's just that if I'm in an environment where there's high contrast/dynamic lighting then it's going to be a pain changing the ISO every time/the video will look dodgy. Was just hoping for something to use for those kind of scenarios.

That's the nature of shooting video though.

To get the best from a DSLR when shooting video it needs to be in full manual control to stop it changing things automatically, which will be obvious when watching the video back.

White Balance, Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO all need to be set to get consistent video. Given that most DSLRs also require manual focusing also, it's just part and parcel of using them as a tool to be a video camera.

If you are in an environment which is changing a lot, you will have to make a compromise, or just change it on the fly and accept the sudden difference, or just make a cut between shots.
