Canon powershot G9 - equivalent?

My friend has a G9. From what I've seen of hers and reviews it is a fantastic camera and exactly what I'm looking for. I have a slim for point and click but require something with a wide angle lens, better zoom and higher MP count. I'm not after a DSLR, they're too large. Is there a newer g9 model, or anything comparable. Another friend has a lumix 29 but i'm not so keen on those. WHat's the gernal opinion?

G10 and G11 are newer versions of the G9.

Whilst the G10 is indeed an excellent camera, I have found the distortion around the edge of the lens when at its widest to be a little disappointing.
Not being able to use the zoom whilst recording video is also a let down.

Otherwise, my 400D has not been taken out for days out or walkabouts for a while now, the G10 has coped admirably with everything I've thrown at it.

I agree....as much as I like Canon...if i had the cash, and getting compact, I'd get the LX3...though if i can stretch a bit more i would get the GF1.

I bought a G11 a couple of weeks ago as a carry everywhere camera but with pretty much all the functionality of a dSLR and have to say I'm well pleased with it and can definitely recommend one.

Not that iv found for general stuff, if I know ill be needing to zoom in loads I just take my dslr
