Canon Powershot SX50 or Panasonic DMC-FZ200

Fair enough, there's a few UK based importers so that takes the risk away and reduces the turnaround. HDEW, flashcamera, etc.

I know I'll probably get flammed for this, but to be honest - the FZ200 seems to have a lot of bells and whistles that you won't need I guess. I'd save a bit of cash and just get the FZ72.

FZ72 offers a range from 20mm-1200mm, so if you're concerned about zoom it's range is more. As for the most gimmicky features they both have panorama, built-in HDR, 3D, RAW (GOOOOOD), and neither have GPS. Both have 23 focus points, but the FZ72 doesn't have an external flash - it's built it only.

That's just me though. I'm sure other people would tell me to shut up and go for the FZ200 :P

FZ72 has a stupidly narrow aperture at the long end, that's the main sticking point and that's why the FZ200 is being pushed. Doesn't seem to be a massive difference in price either.

True. Most RAW images from them both at full zoom seem to point that the FZ200 is much sharper (no surprise). For what appears to be £30-50 in most cases, I'd side and go for the FZ200 :)

So there are 4 people in here who all have a working knowledge of photography, its associated hardware and its application, who are advising to go one way yet you seem to be choosing the other.

Why even bother asking in the 1st place?

i am weighing up all the arguments.. for and against.

The Fuji HS50-EXR seems to be getting very good reviews.. how does that compare to the FZ200?

LoL, you can never have too many bells and whistles.

Andi.

This set of shots are all from the SX50. I must get back to sorting them out (where have you heard that before?), but it's better than no examples at all, and there are a few in there I was quite pleased with. You'd expect that on a day with great light though. But it's a full diary of that day's shots, showing everything I took.

However it was a day when I really wished I'd been carrying my DSLR.

Going back to the choice thing though... I can't emphasise enough how important I think the EVF quality is. If it's at all possible, try both before buying.

damn this is hard... can't decide between the Panasonic FZ200 or the Fuji HS50. Tried both in Jessops.. the manual zoom the HS50 is great.

Yeah I can understand that, as an ex-owner of an old Fuji bridge camera the manual zoom is certainly better than a powered one.

If you plan on doing any video however the powered zoom is a lot better for zooming as it's a lot smoother in practice and looks a lot better on any recorded footage.

It's still the f2.8 of the Panasonic that would win for me though.
