I didn't sleep properly today (or for the past few days in honesty)... working nights has that effect.
Passed out at 7am and a parcel arrived for one of my housemates at 11am.
At 6pm I was flagging and needed a couple of hours before work, and just couldnt drop off. Lots of sleep paralysis, numb head pains etc before finally dropping off.
Then like an ******* out of the blue, my landlord arrived and woke me up to collect rent minutes after I finally nodded off. Had to go down the cashpoint (and it was bloody freezing!) to get his money, and that woke me up.
Then into work and having a hightop van trying to rub my arse with his bumper while I needed to change lanes didn't amuse me. When I got to work things didn't get any better. The automated scripts (which are replacing me from next Friday and are only being tested this week) don't actually work. The legacy database backup went fine, but couldnt be verified (script error, since amended
). The new backup script worked, but then the databases wouldnt start... the wonders of automation. THEN the system review wouldnt start using the automated process... need to increase the -L lock file variable my arse, its set to 100K!!!
Anyway, after oncall came into the building for a couple of hours trying to sort these problems out, we finally decided to use the legacy scripts. Oh, and the 'message oncall if error' system hasn't been tested yet, and this all needs to be live by next Friday because I'll no longer be here.
Actually reminds me of my botch job, last-minute student projects done all night just before they were due in.
Anyway, thats why I'm awake (because I'm in work) and I hope you lot have had a better night than me. Oh, and while I'm moaning I work 6 nights a week and don't have a social life.
There we go, that about does it
