Hi guys, I'm writing because a couple of days ago my network dropped and i pretty much instantly got reconnected to BTFON which i think is like a national public network. The network isn't that reliable and i can't reconnect to my home private network. I can connect to it on my phone but theres no option to connect to it from my PC. Im using home plugs on my computer to connect to my router. Any advice and ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

If you normally connect using homeplugs and you've ended up on a wireless connection something must have gone wrong with the homeplugs.

Disable the wireless adapter to simplify things and then check all the wiring. If the wiring is okay try resetting the homeplugs. If the homeplugs came with a setup utility use it to check their status.

I think my router is picking up the public network and im just connecting to it via my homeplugs. I dont have a wireless adapter for my PC.

What do you mean? i've unpluged the homeplugs and restarted my computer and the router. Is there a proper way to turn stuff off?

Buddy FON is a wireless network, if you're on a wired pc then you're not connected to it and would not even be able to see it in your network settings.

If you have no network connection to the lan on your pc, reset the network adaptor, check your Homeplugs work and the patch leads are connected.

Reset your home hub by pulling power for two minutes and putting it back.

Yeah router goes to my home plug which carries the signal through my electrical cables to another home plug which goes to my pc via ethernet.

It could be that somebody nearby has powerline adapters too. Ive heard that you can pick up other signals through them. The router won't pick up other signals unless it is acting as a bridge. Is the router a modem too?? i.e. is it plugged into the phone line??

Have you reset your router?

Sometimes they lock up but the lights continue making reassuring flashes despite no doing anything useful....

To test the theory that you might be jumping on someone elses homeplug network ...

On your phone and PC, type into google what is my IP address. The external IP address should be the same if they're both on the same network.

@xMarkie, yeah i've tried resetting my router, also im still able to connect to my home network via my phone but just not on my pc.

@KIA, i have no idea.
Ok, so the router and wireless is working if you can connect your phone to your home network (wireless on router).

So you have to diagnose whether the ethernet is working on your router then whether the homeplug link is working then whether ethernet is setup and working on your pc.

Which operating system is it?
Did anything happen just before you found out it was no longer working? (powercut/thunder storm/DIY on the house)

Do you have another pc or laptop you could plug your ethernet cable into to test? Then plug that straight into the router to test that?

The ethernet must be working for me to be connected to the internet at all because i don't have a wireless adapter in my computer.

They're both on the same network, just tested this.
