Can't connet to internet in windows 7, help needed plz?

It's a crossover cable you need to connect 2 PCs together isn't it?

Also they need to be in the same IP range, but different IPs. 192.168.1.1 + 192.168.1.2

Maybe :)

Hey Guys,

I just installed windows 7 and it's working great but I cannot seem to connect to the internet. Could it be a problem with my wifi card? which is the realtek RTL8139/810x Family PCI fast ethernet NIC

Many thanks in advance

try jumping on it with your pogo stick

How's Crysis on w7?

go into device manager under W7 and check whether there are any unknown devices or whether your wifi card and ethernet have an exclamation mark next to them. If so, find the model number for your devices and download the latest drivers for them. They may have beta drivers for W7 if not just use the relevant Vista drivers (64bit vista drivers with w7 64bit etc)

Thankfully someone with a good answer for the OP.

Unfortunately I have exactly the same problem. I've checked under Device Manger for any information about my ethernet port and there's nothing listed at all. And my mobo driver CD won't work under W7. I just have to wait it out until some compatible drivers are released by the same company that made my mobo, the OP may have to do the same.

Is your Ethernet built into the motherboard? You could try going to the motherboard manufacturers website and look-up what chipset it uses and find out that way :). Just type in your motherboard model.

for PC-to-PC, you can't set either one to xxx.xxx.xxx.1 this is reserved for the subnet address :).

when i do PC-to-PC, its almost always 192.168.6.2 and 192.168.6.3

Hi Guys,

I am still haven't sorted out this problem

I have a realtek wifi card and have installed the latest 32bit vista driver for 32bit windows 7 beta. I think there's an issue because of my sound card which is made by realtek as well. Do you think I should update the sound card driver as well? Maybe there is a conflict between the two devices which won't allow the internet to come on?

Many thanks in advance

Yes, that's definitely it. Your soundcard is stopping you getting to the internet. It's blocking it with soundwaves, you know, like the Decepticons used to hack the military network.

If only you had your PS3, you could get on the internet through that.

please guys seriously give me an answer?

It's not the soundcard.

I'm going to humour you for a bit. Firstly, when you used a wired cat 5 connection do you get an IP? Do you get anything? (does it say it's connected?) If we can get that working then we'll know if it's a application or device issue.
