So.....

Currently running a 7950 Sapphire vapor-x and for most games its still going well on most games but frames are starting to drop below 60fps. I'm looking to upgrade soonish with a budget of £400 absolute max.

I'm going to stay at 1080p as space is an issue and Benq XL3024T monitor will be hitting my desk end of march also. So what would be the best bet on a GPU to smash all current and future games as this will have to be future proof for a good few years also.

I know about the eternal AMD vs nVidia battle. But just want some normal no biased info.......

970, 390 or R9 Nano.....................

Cheers guys :D

Oh current rig also-

i7 3770k @ 4.2GHz
16GB DDR3 1600MHz
MSI Z77A-G45
Sapphire 3GB 7950 Vapor-X
Corsair 750W PSU

If you plan on keeping it for a couple of years+ i would go for the 390, i think they are better future-proofed, performance would be the 390 as well (vs the 970) but they are broadly similar.

The Nano seems to be the bargain GPU right now but i'm not sure about its 4GB Buffer in the long term.

see I'm unsure about the 4GB vs 8GB, in the long run as I'm staying at 1080p, would i not be exceeding the 4GB requirement. The 970 feels like a back step really and its a toss up between the 390 or nano.

Also seen some comments about coil whine on the nano is this common or just down to individual cards?

cheers for the quick reply guys

Nano all the way, 329£ and comes with the new Hitman & starwars battlefront... they only have 20 cards to sell jump on it, it's perfect timing for you!

Unless you are in a massive rush to change now I would wait a few more months for the new cards to appear as at the very least it will bring some deals on the current cards and you may even go with one of the new cards....

Just a thought ...

However I really do like my 390 and I am 1080p atm but will be 1440 in the next week or so once I work out which monitors I am going with.

So had the nano for like a week now from the super deal. Card is awesome even at stock settings. As for conserns myself and others have about noise, well there aint much. Not heard the coils yet but my case does have some sound dampening. So thats all good, performance is brill and just a big thanks for the help and advise :)
