Hey, I'm trying to decide which graphics card to get - I've seen mixed opinions across the web so I thought I'd ask here.

Building a new system with a 1 grand budget, trying to decide what graphics to go for... I'll be doing plenty of gaming, 3D animation, video editing etc.

I'm not entirely sure how much I will have on the graphics alone yet so I thought it might be a good idea to see which order you would put the following in:

(don't want an ATI card)

(best at 1)

- 8800 GT
- 8800 GTS
- 8800 GTX
- 9800 GT
- 2x 8800 GT
- 2x 9800 GT

It'd be a huge help, thanks in advanced!

As a rough guide.

Can't be bothered with the 256mb variations, as imo they aren't worth it, 512Mb Min really;)

9600GT ---Good
8800GT
8800GTS ---Your Best Bet
8800GTX EOL
8800Ultra EOL
9800GTX ---Excellent (very overpriced for what it is; 2x 8800GTS in sli on one card)

In your situation, your best bet would be to get a 8800GTS 512Mb, as they are a slightly slower 9800GTX that can't do Tri-Sli.

Defo the best bang for your buck:- £158 Bargin!

And obliviously if you wish to have sli then 8800GTS 512Mb Sli is the way to go.

Hope that helps!

1280x720 at the moment but I would quite like it to be a bit higher (my desktop is at 1440x900).

At the moment I'm mainly playing Call of Duty 4, bit of Unreal 3. Wouldnt mind trying some of the next gen MMOs when they come out. Oh and all the Valve games but they arnt too system straining.

(would be nice to play crysis ;))

Played with all the top end cards. Here's how I would rate them.

1. 3870X2 - Best card on the block at the moment for the money. Lots to come with this. Very CPU limited.

2. 8800 GTS 512 - Fast card with low AA

3. 8800 GTX - Doesn't have the grunt of the GTS but comes into its own with High AA

4. 8800 GT - Great all round card for the money. Can't fault it.

Just sold my X2 and debating what to do next. I'm probably going for a GX2 but SLI puts me off. The X2 is a cracking card and it will take some beating for the money.
