Can't Defrag Page File with Diskeeper

Does anyone know of any reason that Diskeeper wouldn't be able to defrag the page file on my hard disk?

Diskeeper appears capable of defragging the hard disk generally, and also my external USB disk, but for some reason it can't defrag the page file.

Its a 30GB disk, XPpro, with 20% free space, which while not a lot of free space doesn't seem to stop it defragging the rest of the disk - its the page file its seems to have a problem with... Any ideas????

Why would you want to defrag the page file ?

It'll be because it's in use.

You need PageDefrag from Sysinternals - now taken over by Microsoft. Take a look here http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/FileAndDisk/PageDefrag.mspx

it's a bad idea to have a pagefile on a usb drive

usb hard drive speeds are capped to about 25-30mb/s

No, I think he means Diskeeper is defragging his internal and external HDDs, just not the pagefile on his internal HDD.

Problem solved - switched off page file, defragged disk, switched page file back on, works properly now.

Defraging pagefile can give a performance boost, as it is a highly used part of the hard drive, contiguous files is greatly beneficial.

Turning off page file is only way I knew of doing this, although I don't think you can completely turn it off, have to have at least 15mb I think.
