I've been hit by the above bug and it is getting on my nerves. I've tried numerous reset(s) and I've even tried the recovery menu. It even does it when resetting the phone and signing into my @googlemail account. I remember when I first booted the phone up and I didn't actually sign up as I didn't want to because I pressed "skip".

I've looked all over and tried all available options to rectify the problem. Although it just keeps popping up.

Could it be the SIM card itself? Do you need credit when trying to sign in/up to using a @googlemail account? (I currently have no credit added to the SIM card) as I use it only for Wi-Fi.

I try it on Wi-Fi and it fixes it until I switch the phone off and turn it back on and then the problem is back.

I'm really starting to lose hope and that's why I decided to come here and ask for advice. Android can be a real pain in the backside sometimes. :/

Technical details: My phone is: Samsung Galaxy Y (GTS5360). My vendor/provider is Vodafone (UK). Version of Android is 2.3.6 (Gingerbread).

Thanks in advance guys. :)

PS: If worst comes to worst I'll take the phone back to the shop, but that wastes my warranty which I want to avoid. Also I would not like to root my phone because that also voids the warranty.

The error says there's no data connection. If you don't have wifi on and have no credit (so therefore, no mobile data) then there is no data connection and the phone is right. I don't really know what to say.

Turning off 'sync' would probably do it. You'll have to manually refresh emails etc though

Edit - or make sure mobile data is completely switched off when you have no credit. (Try this before switching off sync)

So you're telling me it is my credit that is the main problem/that is causing it? :O I never knew you needed credit to be able to sign into your account. Well I know you need some sort of data connection. Although it says I have one, but no credit. :o

You never knew you needed credit to get data on PAYG? You should probably look at the details of the deal you're on.

But he's stated he's connecting over a WiFi connection, that can be done without a SIM even in the phone.

Here's what happens again in detail: When I reset the phone/restore to factory settings and it clears and wipes everything from the phone. Next it boots up as though it is fresh from a store and only just turned on for the first time. I enter my details and stuff with the SIM in, but it gives me no option for Wi-Fi. That's when the problem appears. Although on the SIM card I have no credit. I have tried it without the SIM and all worked, but I can't exactly use a phone without a SIM as some features require the SIM card to be active in the phone. So the main cause is the SIM not having any credit. Seems a little weird. They should give you the option for Wi-Fi when you're turning the phone on for first use. :o

Anyway thanks for your help guys; I appreciate it. :) Now I know the main cause of it. If I see it in the future I can use the steps you've given me.

For the sake of £8 a month you can get a 300min/txt 500mb data plan with Talkmobile (actually Vodafone so it'll work in your presumably locked phone).

Yep, it's locked. Tried another SIM card inside it and it said "Enter unlock code". I had something similar on O2's network - with free text allowances and web. Thanks for that :)
