Can't get 5.1 out of my 360..

I spoke to Yamaha today and they thought it might be the 360 putting out 96/24 sound and my processor can only handle 44khz sound...

So, is there a way to stop the 360 from outputting 96/24 or do I just have to lump it and get a new processor when I can?
