Can't get OC in stable in GTA V

OK this is driving me round the bend. Been at it all day now.

So I can get my OC stable at +155Mhz GPU, +550Mhz RAM [2100Mhz, 9.2Ghz] (no extra voltage, max power limit).
I can literally run heaven and Valley for hours and hours stable.

5 mins into GTA V and it crashes. In steps I've taken it all the way down to +140 and +500 trying to find stability in GTA V and tried increasing the voltage also but still it crashes (Its fine without an overclock).

How can there be such difference between "stress test" programs and GTA V?

Obviously GTA takes a lot longer to load than Valley so to say this is a pain would be an understatement...
 
I have played division and gtav extensively and as Jedi said the division is horrid on overclocks, but the same overclocks I had in division were never an issue with gtav.

I would recommend trying windowed borderless and limit fps if possible first as gtav sometimes freaks out in the loading screens.

Second to that, adaptive vsync solved all my issues with vsync off in game, but I was running 60fps only.

Also, are you gaming at native res? Gtav hates scaling itself off of a different desktop res.
 
Native res. Honestly I'm just going to run it stock. It's not worth it when I can get the same FPS boost by turning shadows from very high to high. I thought I had it then, then I got a BSOD after about 30mins. CBA with it. stock is fine.
 
GTA V is always fickle when it comes to OC. My 980 would take an overclock, to 1500 MHz and no more (my bench mark clocks were 1540) The game would randomly blue screen 1 MHz over that.

My 980ti is exactly the same. 1450 MHz all day long (and I play all day long) anything over and it will crash after a while.

So I would, as said, start from stock and work your way up...
 
Obviously you are pushing it too hard, quite simple really find your max gpu core clock with stock memory first then find the max memory clock with stock gpu core, then test with them both dialled in
I'd imagine if it's not throttling and reducing 13mhz steps and voltage, then your memory is too high. Usually memory overclocks on 1060's including mine are goof for 300-400mhz.
