Hi guys,

I've connected my wifes PC to the TV in the bedroom using a 10m HDMI cable. I've got the desktop showing and can move items from one screen to the next. I'm having trouble with the sound though.

Firstly, according to Control Panel the Digital Audio (HDMI) device is not plugged in. The HDMI cable and video signal is obviously okay. Any ideas about the audio? Currently, the Speakers device is working, so the video plays in the bedroom, but the sound is coming through the PC speakers in the computer room.

Secondly, if I want to watch movies on my server through the PC and on the bedroom TV, what's the easiest way to set up the sound ... assuming I can sort out the problem above. Do I have to swap the device back and for in the control panel everytime I want to go between the PC and the TV?

depending on your graphics card you may or may not be able to also send sound over your hdmi cable,i think you need to look up the special drivers to allow this or check it out through your grahics control pannel.

what is your card?

The easiest way to get sound out of you tv is to buy a 10m 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack cable which you connect from your pc output audio conenction to the tv.you can pick one of these up a a competitor website for around £1.65 as i recall.

Not an expert on ATI cards but from what I've heard they should do this automatically (At least the 4 series and above) along with the nVidia GTX4xx series.

If you're using an older NV card then it's a small pain, you'll need to connect the 2-pin spdif cable from the sound device (Motherboard or Sound Card) and into your card. This can be quite fiddly unfortunately and I ended up having to use a nail file to get the cables to fit into the GCard without me ripping it out in frustration.

What mobo and Gcard are you using? I'll see if I can dig out some resources that might help.

It's an integrated ATI 3200 on a Gigabyte mobo ... I'll dig the specs out tomorrow.

Running a seperate audio cable might be an option.

try unplugging the 3.5mm jack from your pc, i have had issues where the sound wouldn't go through the hdmi cable with this also plugged in.
sometimes unplugging and plugging the hdmi cable back in can work also.

Might be the cable itself?

I can only get sound from my receiver when connected via HDMI if the TV is on the HDMI input channel.

Hmm if it's integrated then there would be no cables to connect.

Have you tried installing the latest Catalyst drivers for the 3200 onboard? The last few ATI driver installs I've done for people have had a checkbox for HDMI Audio Driver, so a re-install might fix that issue.
