Hello

Please save my sanity and help sort out my ADSL problems. I am with BT and have the dreaded Home Hub (yes I know, I should have researched before signing up!).

I cannot get a stable connection - I get disconnects for several hours, and then sometimes slow speeds. At the moment the Home Hub Broadband light is flashing and has done since last night. Does this mean the Hub cannot sync with the line?

I have tried changing all the cabling to the hub from the master socket and even reformatted and reinstalled last night in an attempt to get things working.

The problem seems random - e.g. I had great connection on Saturday and Sunday until the evening when the broadband light started flashing and I got disconnected.

Do you think it is the Hub? Would I be better off getting This One as a Hub replacement?

Or would it be worth getting back on to BT, who will no doubt again tell me to clear out my cookies and temp internet files

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated ! :)

Right first off DO NOT I repeat DO NOT! Re install windows cause your router can't sync, its a waste of time and effort and won't make any difference to any routers.

Changing routers might help if you have a weak line but to be honest it's not a guranteed way of fixing your problem.

What kind of speeds does your router connect with? Do you know your distance to the exchange?

You will get different speeds depending on time of time but unless there is a fault somewhere you shouldn't get disconnected, either there is a problem in your local exchange or maybe there is some problems with your local wiring. Both which needs to be fixed by BT or at least looked into.

Thanks for the replies - blemistywaters - yes I have done the master socket test. I am currently online - just - and my stats are :-

Modulation: G.992.1 annex A

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 896

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [KB/KB]: 9.00 / 45.00

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 17.0

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 31.5 / 55.0

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 21.0 / 18.5

Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / TSTC

Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 12 / 0

Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Link (Remote): 0

Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 32 / 0

FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 332

CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 10

HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 4

Any other suggestions or comments on the current speed?

Man those stats are pretty baaaad

These are mine

As you can see the biggest difference is the Line Attuenation where I think your problems are. How far away from your exchange are you? Are you on ADSL max or fixed 1mbit?

Unless you are miles away from the exchange I think you have a problem somewhere on the line.
