Can't get stock cooler off + connecting VF900 help

It is really annoying! I have bought a shiney new VF-900 as my X850XT PE keeps overheating (90degrees) and the fan is so loud! I've tried to remove the backplate but unfortunately the screws were so stiff and tiny they were impossible to remove (I had the correct size screwdriver). Now they are worn in and I can't get the bugar off! Any ideas? I would try Artery clips (grips to lock) but I know im just going to damage something :( . The screws are impossible to remove normally now, they are to worn in (imo).

Well it doesnt have a face to kill it in...or ovaries to punch. So try some needle nose pliers to get them turning.

Sorry, but its the only way :(

either that or

if the screwdriver doesn't fit then don't really know what you can do :(

This started to happen to me when i was taking the stock cooler off, but i ended up getting a bike tool screw driver and it worked a treat :)

If not, then the only other thing would be to use some pliers like Raikiri said.

You could try putting it in the freezer, the cold might make the screws come out easier. Or if heat is needed, put it in the oven.

Heh... :D

How did you manage to wear the screws in that much? If you turned it too hard, the face of the screw will just deform making it harder to come off. :)

Is it possible to use a very small drill bit to drill the heads off the screws..

Exactly what we did! Even the drill struggled to get them off at fast rotation, they really didn't want to let go! But I've got the Zalman on and... its heaven! I cannot hear it at all! Even at full speed it is still quiet (IMO). I'm not to impressed with the Arctic Cooler Freezer though, I have connected it to the fan connector on my motherboard and it is quite loud? How long will it now take for the thermal paste to settle and for my best temps to appear? So far my idle temperatures do not seem any different (40Degrees for graphics card, Optimistic I know after just installing.)

I'm not making excuses but they were already pretty worn down to start with which is odd? I mean if the electric drill struggled to get them off thats saying something! Took us 10 minutes to get just one off. MSI didn't want me to remove that HSF :D

Temperatures should be impacted on straight away I'd assume. 40C on your CPU isn't too bad. Mines idling at that at the moment, considering today is pretty warm! :)

My GPU is idling quite high at the moment at 45C with a Zalman, but this is an Nvidia GPU.

That was for my GPU. The zalman was set to low-medium. I'm also nervous about the Arctic cooler as it is pretty heavy at 530g, can mobos really take that sort of weight?

the arctic cooler isnt heavy at all realy

wow! With the controller 3/4 of the way my load temperatures seem idle at 64-70! How does that sound? I cannot believe that cooler can knock off around 20degrees and be quieter! VF900 comes highly recommended!

It should be OK... considering the Big Typhoon is at 813g I believe and I have one of those. ;)

White Knight, i seem to remember that you've already doen the 1.55v with just the stock heat sink. 40c at idle with the Zalman is about right at those volts, you'll only really notice the difference under load (shouldn't be more than 55c or so at 1.55v).

Looking at the fan closer it actualler looks like its half way! I am very impressed with this fan so far, couldn't be happier with it!
