can't get sub working when watching films-pls help

Hi,
My sub is not working when watching films.

The sub works ok when I do a "speaker test"

My sub is an MS308.

Any suggestions pls?

sub only kicks in at certain points (eg big explosions etc) most of time it just chills out

Have you got your amp set to 'auto' and with that when a film plays do you see the front of the amp change to DTS, DOLBY etc?

What amp have you got??
Do you have the front speaker setting set to large on the amp?? should be set to small.

I just read the manual for my amp (duh) and it seems to suggest that having it set to auto will automatically detect the output based on the source. Makes sense...I've had it on Dolby something or other until now...Blurays sounded great, other non 5.1 sources not so much. And behold, there is the reason why in my case. Thanks
