The MOBO is an MSI 870A-G54 and the monitor is a Samsung B2230, everything else works I have installed both the sound driver that came with the mobo on the DVD and I have downloaded and installed the AMD HDMI Audio Drivers and the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver plus the PC and Monitor are connect both through a HDMI and a old style green headed sound cable but still no sound!

if you're on windows 7, right click the sound icon and choose 'playback devices' and check it's set to the right one. If you're not sure whichthat is, try each in turn.

This might be a daft question but where are you expecting the sound to come from? I don't think that monitor has any speakers.

Just a thought try a set of different cables HDMI or DVI-D, check to see if Audio Onbroad sound is enabled > Bios. Try right clicking on your taskbar Orange speaker icon > Realtek HD Manager > speakers + microphone should have a tick on them > check to see if your speaker config is right and the right speaker box's ticked plus have you got the speaker cables in the right colours on the back panel connectors of the PC > black, green, pink, orange, grey if you are using them.

Well i want it to come from the monitor and i know the monitor has speakers since the monitor has a volume level setting.

also in the bios it is enabled plus in the realtek audio manager i have a tick on both hdmi out and line in

i put headphones in and no sound did i maybe forget to plug something in to the mobo? i plugged both the HD Audio and ac 97 in the mobo JUAD1 socket (not both at the same time)

but why does it have a volume level on the monitor? plus i just connected some external speakers and they dont give any sound so the problem lies with computer (mobo)

Looking at Samsung's site it appear's too only list that monitor without speakers.

But searching Samsung B2230 on Google appears to show the same model with a built in TV tuner and speaker's

I'd assume it's similar to the the Samsung T220 and the Samsung T220HD with is the variant with the TV tuner and speaker's.

However Samsung's site appear's not to mention a variant with a TV tuner and speakers (that I can find) so who know's.

*EDIT*
Yes I also checked the manual and it doesn't mention a variant with speaker's , but the manual does cover various other models too all without any mention of speaker's or volume control.

However if the OP has tested with headphones or other speakers , then getting side tracked on the monitor speakers isn't really focusing on the main problem

I've just downloaded the manual for the Samsung B2230 and it makes no mention whatsoever of speakers or volume levels. Are you sure you don't have a different monitor? Is the model number B2230 or does it have any extra letters?

Its full name is the Samsung SyncMaster B2230
It has 70 000:1 Dynamic contrast 1x HDMI
6touch buttons in the front of which 2 you can use to increase or decrease the monitor's volume level

But i also put in headphones in the computer and external speaker but still no sound, i think the computer is at fault maybe i connected it wrong i put the HD Audio cable in the JAUD1 connector on the MOBO or i got the wrong driver?

The up and down buttons on the front of the monitor are for navigating the OSD menu not volume buttons. Section 3 - 14 of your manual covers these buttons in detail.

Can you open the "playback" tab and tack a screenshot of what you can see for us?

Checked device manager for any problems..?

Edit: also adding that if there's a + and - on a samsung monitor this doesn't mean it has speakers.

emm dont know about the black option but you are right the same buttons used in the menu to go up and down are also used outside of the menu to control the monitor volume level.

but i really do think the problem is with the computer not the monitor since i connected headphones and external speakers to computer and even coudntget sound of those.
