OK, nice is personal perspective, it is a Qashqai so not everyone's cup of tea :).

Some inconsiderate road user has dented our car door when it was parked and then driven away without leaving contact info. While not overly obvious there is a crease and split in the panel so it looks like a new door will be needed. Unfortunately it is on the passenger side so for all I know may have happened a few days ago.

I have no idea how much a door for a 63 plate Qashqai will be so will have to do some ringing around tomorrow. Based on the dent I expect my car moved so its difficult to give the other driver the benefit of the doubt.

I will have to weigh if the hit to the insurance is worth it or if I be better off paying it out of my own pocket. Either way it is pretty frustrating as there is no way that I personally would not leave a note and contact details if I had done the same.

End of rant :(

Been parked in many car parks over the past few days? Do you think any of them may have had CCTV? Could be worth asking around?

Don't see the point in getting a new door skin if you're paying for this yourself - just get it repaired and painted will be less hassle

I wouldn't bother with insurance for something like this because you'll only end up paying for it at renewal time for several years.

Im one of those that parks right at the back of the car parks where many others dont as its too far to walk to the store entrance. Obviously this is not always possible.

What I do not do is park across two bays to stop people parking next to you. Thaaaat really gets my goat. If I had an old tatty car Id squeeze in the gap thats left and climb out the boot just to make a point.

Fair shout, my wife an I are listing the places we've been. Our gym is a candidate from Sunday morning and probably has cctv. People there are generally pretty decent so I'd be surprise if somebody drove off but it is worth a check.

The only reason I am unsure of a repair is that I'm not convinced many place nowadays do a decent job on blending the paint. Anyone have experience of this?

I don't really know what you're worrying about here - go to a reputable place or even Nissan(who will just farm it out but at least your corrosion warranty will stay intact) the car is very new a match won't be an issue

Paint match on a 2 year old car shouldn't be a problem surely ? A decent body shop ought to be glad of private business instead of being beaten down by insurers that then take forever to pay for the job.

I have a metallic on my car that's probably not the easiest to match, but found a body shop that's approved for repairs on some high end cars as well as my car and they did an excellent job on a couple of panels.

I asked about issues with matching and they showed me the computerised colour scanning and paint mixing equipment. They said that this made matching pretty accurate and in the event its still not perfect due to variations in application they redo the work. I had a similar experience when I lived in another part of the country on an 8 year old car - again by picking a body shop approved for some quality cars and with a good reputation.

So don't be put off by the thought of issues with matching, just make sure you do a little research on body shops.

Most places will tell you parking in their parking lots is at your own risk and offer no further assistance. What colour is your car? Just get it repaired out of your own pocket. Unlucky :(

Feel for you buddy. Was washing the other halfs car on Monday only to find a nasty crease on the rear quarter. Spent 1 hour removing all the interior panels to push it out from the inside. It is not perfect but better than before.

I always park my car away from everyone else and now the other half has learnt that lesson too. Too much scum in this country!

Cheers mate, it's just a bit infuriating. I am a bit like you, avoid parking near people carriers etc... but it doesn't stop people from being careless.

A few months back I was hit by a woman who was swinging into a parking space way too fast. Thankfully there was no damage that time as it was just the plastic trim below the bumper where contact was made. Her excuse was that she wasn't used to a "big" car. She had just changed from a Smart to a Polo .

I know how you feel OP. People just simply do not care. I gave my work colleague a lift after work today and I was parked up close to some wheelie bins on the passenger side. Suffice to say I knew no one could get in/open the door properly so before we got in I said " I will reverse a bit first". This was ignored and my colleague continued to try and get in, without even realising there was no way the door could be opened and just opened it onto the wheelie bin!! Fortunately, the wheelie bin was plastic so there is no damage done at all (just inspected for a long time after getting home from work!) but what if it hadn't been a plastic bin/something softer than metal? If it was anything metal/stone/brick my door would have been ****ed.

I just don't know how people can be so careless. They knew damn well it was a brand new car as well ( only had it a few months).

I am just thanking god it was only opened on to plastic or I would have been absolutely furious.

I am so careful with other peoples car doors etc when getting into someone else car. Some people just simply don't give a ****.

My ex girlfriend opened the door on my XR2i onto a concrete post. Big 6" dent next to the door handle.
She couldn't understand why I was so mad at her. Which made me even madder!!

You need to advise your insurers of the incident but say that you won't be making a claim but reserve the right to do so.

I have a similar story. Pull up into a car park spot, girlfriend flings the door open full force without even looking, straight into a fence. Said "well you shouldn't have parked so close then"

Needless to say she didn't last long. Some people genuinely leave me stunned.
