Cant initialise Sandisk SSD?

I've never known an ssd be so hard to initialise

Was it part of a raid array? Try setting ports to raid then press Ctrl and i at startup to enter raid console, then delete any array

No was my system drive windows 7 and games no raid.

Had this myself with a S/H ssd, I had to use my linux install and dd it. Then partition it in linux first. It should then allow you to wipe it in windows and repartition/format it.

This was on a OCZ drive.

sorry, DD?

Was the original system it came from setup as UEFI? Maybe some sort of security that is looking for the original BIOS/Motherboard for Secure Boot?

First time I had wiped a ssd I used the boards secure erase, as I know not to defrag or format it.

sorry, DD?

Zero the drive with Linux basically.

Boot a Linux live CD with just the SSD connected.

Run the following from command line

Code:
sudo fdisk -l

This will give you the drives attached

Replace /dev/sdX with the correct entry for the ssd then run the following

Code:
 dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX iflag=nocache oflag=direct bs=4096

does it show in diskpart? "list disk". If it does, it might need the partitions removing with "select disk x" and "clean". But do take care, this will wipe the boot/partition information for the selected drive (or the current if it can't select the SSD!) (unplug others if you want)

You can also use diskpart from windows install (shift-f10)

EDIT: Now the pictures loaded! I see you did all that (downloading GTA V on 4Mb :| )

If it ignores disk part, even from windows boot, then it may be dead. How long was it not in use?

Ok, looking here https://ata.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/ATA_Secure_Erase and some other relevant google results.

Secure erase needs a password to blank the SSD, it may set a *blank* password with the bios wipe, but not all bios support a drive with a blank password. Security is supposed to be disabled after the wipe, but this seems to be a bit hit and miss looking at similar reported issues.

hdparm -I should detail the current status.

Hi again all, It was initially wiped clean in a rig with an X79 Rampage Black (Clones PC) and the board in the system I was trying to initialise it in is a P8Z68-V Pro. But I tried in my AM3 system as well as an old 775 system too.

I don't think it is dead, all health tools show that it is in good health, it just refuses to initialise. But I dont know... I'd be surprised if it were dead, as I'm sure clone would be too. I don't see how that could have happened unless the postie tazered the parcel. :p

Currently trying DD.

This is gonna take a while, it is doing it at 4mb/s

About 9 hours according to my calculations. :p

Want me to trust you my addy Tom and you can send it back then I can refund you mate,I know it will work on my rig,I'm sorry for all the hassle I've caused,as I've said I'm no ssd guru but thinking about it I should have asked on here what was the best way to wipe it.

You can do yeah, thanks clone :)

I am just going to try the last couple of things which have been suggested before admitting defeat.

If they don't work then I will send it back. Dont worry, its not your fault. Could just have easily been me sending you my SSD. :p

I am afraid that I have used the "Sandisk Extreme SSD" case sticker though. I stuck it on before I tried to format it.

Lol not bothered about a sticker :D ive sent my addy to you in trust, even if I cant get it to work its still under warranty till the 16th june this year.

Since SSD's are small, light, indestructible, and therefore cheap to post (antistatic bag inside a jiffy bag); rather than a refund, how about I post it back to you, you get rid of the security/format it in a more universal fashion, then send it back? I'll stick a sata to USB adapter in the jiffy as well to make it easier, and possible to test it on a laptop or something afterwards before sending it back. :)

If the problem persists for you and you have to persue the RMA, then I'll take the re-fund. :)
