Recieved my new 250GB SATAII drive on thursday and ever since i cant get the windows setup to recognise the drive.

Basically, when i press F6 to install drivers, i press S to continue and then insert a floppy but it just pops back up asking you to insert the manufacturers disk or something. I've gone into my A8V CD and ran the setup tool that should create the files for the floppy but none seem to work (SATA or RAID on the promise ports - the red ones) Downloaded some SATA/RAID drivers from the net and still nothing.

Ive installed windows with an IDE HDD no probs and then ran the seagate wizard for it to find the new hard disk, but obviously i want windows on the new SATA drive and not the old one.

Basically im now stuck at a dead end.. I dont know how to get setup to recognise the drive even though the BIOS screens say it is there, and also windows itself does.

In need of desperate help asap.

Thanks.

First thing make absolutely sure you are using the correct drivers, for the SATA ports connected to the southbridge it will be these:

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

Version 2.20D 2004/03/08 update
OS Win98SE / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP / Win2003
Description VIA VT6420 (VT8237) SATA RAID Driver Package Version 2.20D WHQL.
File Size 7.24 (MBytes)

In there will be a folder called RAID or DISK or something like that, then a program called MakeDisk.exe, that is what you use for the floppy. Verify afterwards that the floppy actually has the data it should (is in one of the readme files).

Then check you have the limit to SATA 150 jumper enabled if you need it and it should pick up the drive no problem using the floppy.

If that is already what you have done then:

Edit: Folder is called DriverDisk :)

Just trying those newer drivers you suggested. :)

Also, where is that 150 jumper setting? Is it the one on the Hard disk itself limiting the bandwidth or whatever it does?

Edit2: It's not a motherboard jumper setting is it?

Your board is actually an A8V right? Cos not all boards in the A8V series use the same southbridge, A8V-X uses VT8251 (doesn't even require drivers), A8V-E uses VT8237R and so on.. which would explain your problem if your trying to use the wrong ones :)

Sorry, its the A8V Deluxe Rev2. :)

Edit: Send a webnote to OcUK asking them if they would replace the same product but in IDE form. Its not been 7 days since ordering so hopefully i will be able to get a swap unless i can get this to work. :(

Driver for A8V Deluxe is the same as the one I mentioned for A8V, have used Seagate 7200.9 and 7200.7 SATA drives no problem with various VIA southbridges so I can't see why it shouldn't work with 7200.10. As long as you have the right drivers :)

Not sure about the replacement drive cos the 7 days distance selling is for un-used items and as you have opened and installed it, no longer new so they couldn't re-sell it as such. I don't work for overclockers though so don't worry about what I say :p
