Hey folks

Hope this is me being thick and theres an easy answer.

I recently got a pre-built machine from o/c for my wife

Very nice for the price too!

I already have an operating system for it (Win7 64) but for some reason I'm unable to install the os at it will not see the hard drive. Machine has no floppy and won't seem to recognise the sata drivers on a usb.

I can't even get the machine to boot without changing the bios to native ide setting. when set to AHCI it just won't do anything, scans for drives and then gives an error of disk boot failure even though the os disk is in the optical drive and the boot sequence is set to CD Rom first.

Its a puzzle!

Windows 7 has its own SATA drivers. Are you sure the HDD isn't the issue. Maybe a loose or damaged SATA cable. Perhaps even a broken HDD.

Yeah, never had an issue with installing Win 7 before on SATA, machine is brand new so hopefully o/c would test components for building and sending out?

I'll try different sata ports on the mobo and see what happens.

Try different ports, also try a different cable if you have any spare.

HDD could have been damaged in transit.

Tried 3 different SATA cables in all 5 SATA ports on the mobo with both power cables from the PSU. Think the HDD must be borked, RMA time!
