Im at my wits end at the moment

I got a laptop from a friend to see could I fix it

Imagine it had 133 viruses but I got rid of them and what my friend really wants is to get the usb key working but windows just fails to find the driver

Im thinking it could be somthing to do with the laptop not able to install windows service pack 1. I cant get pass the 99% install and get a message of saying "Failure configuring service pack, reverting changes error and after awhile when the computer goes back to somewhat normal, I get this message

Installation was not successful
the system cannot find the path specified

error: ERROR_PATH_NOT_FOUND (0X80070003)

could this be the problem why I cant install the Trans-it Metal Flash Drive?

I go into device manager and try to get the driver for the key that way but I get this message

Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device

Windows found the driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it

Disk drive

this system cannot find the file specified

if you know the manufacurer of you device, you can visit its website and check the support section for drive software (which they dont have)

Have you tried googling the windows update error code and following the guidelines to resolve it?

If it really was that badly infected then reinstalling windows from scratch (or from a factory recovery partition if it has one) would be the safest bet. I'd be amazed if there wasn't some collateral damage from the viruses that'll cause ongoing problems.

bremen well noticed about problems after viruses pathway.
Re-install os all be sorted.

Patrickman if you installing win7, try-out new way - installation via flash drives.
*I can't wait till get best one SSD drive to do this performance-read-write test.

+1 for reinstall. After that, configure things how you like then use clonezilla or similar to make a drive image, that way if the same happens again, you have a quick way to restore the whole drive/partition from the image.

Simples :D
