Howzit guys.

I'm trying to install Windows XP Home Edition OEM on a laptop that has Red Flag Linux? on it in some other language. Was bought from overseas.

Now, I went into the BIOs set the boot from CD as 1st option. Then restarted and it says booting from cd, press any key. So I do. Then I get a "Setup is inspecting your computers configuration" ect. After the CD drive spins up then I get a blank/black screen..nothing else happens after that..?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Sounds like a hardware problem to me. Is the CD in good condition?

Linux being on there shouldn't be a problem but you could get a Win98SE bootdisk (www.bootdisks.com) and boot of that run fdisk and remove the partitions and try again but that shouldn't really make a difference.

Brand new laptop and brand new CD. So I doubt it will be a hardware problem, however doesn't rule it out. :(

Could I take the HDD out and format it? and load instlation onto it?

You could but doing the fdisk thing mentioned above will save you the hassle of taking the hard drive out and achieve exactly the same thing.

I had a the same thing when trying to install xp 64.

turned out to be a bad cd.

Personaly, I'd propley use a caddy and attach it to a PC and then format it. (just to be sure)

throw it back in the laptop and try again.
