Can't kill this Malware/Virus help!!!

I have the Mal/Generic-L virus on my Windows 7 home pc and I can't get rid of it with any of the anti virus programs I have tried (AVG, AVAST, SOPHOS) I have even gone into Safe mode and run AVG with no luck. I have also gone online and seen which files and registry entries they tell you to remove but when I do a search none of them are found?? So I am well confused. I am thinking a complete wipe and reinstall is in order but thought I would ask just incase.

MalwareBytes / SuperAntispyware / Spybot / HijackThis have between them fixed pretty much everything I have encountered.

Spybot is my favourite out of those as a general malware/spyware/viruskiller.
Run it first in normal mode and then reboot in safe mode....should result in a 100% clean system.

If the reg entries are clean how do you know you still have the virus?

Download Malwarebytes and NOD32 trial and update them. Turn off system restore. Run CCleaner. Run the two AVs in safe mode.

Aye forgot about ccleaner...run that anyway, run the registry tool after backing it up. you'll be surprised how much is left behind!
