Can't OC or UC ny GPU anymore please help!

I know what you mean and I would also think that the dual BIOS would allow some over/under clocking on either. It was a chance that both had corrupted but a slim one. Sorry Borley, this was the only idea I could come up with.

Gregster i am grateful for your input i don't want to sound ungrateful:D
im trying to use Gigabytes own utilities with there bios i noticed they have newer ones for my card but do't say what the difference is.

I know that bud :) I understand your frustration as well (as I would be). IUTWBNID is a strange one at times and we scratch our heads and try and think of something we might have done or didn't do.

My suggestion was/is a small chance of it working and updating the BIOS will at least give you some idea if that will allow for over/under clocking. If you can on the newer BIOS, it will tell you it is possible on the older BIOS still and I would ask if anybody has a BIOS they could send you.

Fingers crossed you will get it sorted or somebody has had this happen and knows the fix.

Well i have tried Gigabytes own utility and it just fails:confused:
I have tried the exact same bios and it fails, updated bios fail and this is on both bios switch positions. My card is the GV-R797OC-3GD version, i made sure that was the right version on the site but still it fails, do you think the fact i can't underclock or flash a bios that would be acceted for an RMA?
I wouldn't do this until after christmas as i can still use it at the fine at stock clocks, i have had it about 7 months.
Thanks
Edit: tried using Gigabytes utliity to overclock but nothing im completely stumped, even ther live update in the utility says i have latest version even though Gpu-z shows my version as an older one!

It sure is grounds for an RMA purely on the fact it is advertised as highly overclockable (which isn't the case now for you). The problem I see with not being able to flash the BIOS is deffo hardware failure and something has gone wrong on the PCB.

The latest cards are voltage locked? If so, this will be a shame to lose a unlocked card but still better than no overclock at all.

I mentioned this before if i had a problem when the locked version came out what if we had problems with the earlier version, i was told they would have to replace with the unlocked version as they would keep some back for RMAs.
Thanks

Good result :) and Gigabyte have a great rep for RMA, so the whole process shouldn't take long. Like you though, I would wait till after Christmas :)

Yeah thanks Gregster i mean i can still play at a good clock speed and i can't survive long without my pc;)

Asus on the other hand do not

Unfortunately I may be looking to RMA my new mobo as it is totally dead so being an Asus one it may take some time.

I really seriously doubt you have a BIOS issue. It really is very likely a software issue but:

Sounds like you have the BIOS locked. Have you unlocked the rom prior to the flash attempt?

EDIT: It seems you are using the Gigabyte program for your flash? I don't know if the Gigabyte program unlocks and relocks the ROM or not.

I really would use atiflash for your flash. The -unlockrom switch ia an atiflash command (atiflash -unlockrom 0)

Use the newest atflash version 3.99

I had several Gigabyte 6950's and all had both BIOS locked. Don't know about the 7900's though, but would think they are the same.
