Can't overclock E8400!

I think i'm going a bit mad but my E8400 was quite happily overclocked at 4.05Ghz without any problems, however no it won't go past stock.

And I don't mean it crashes or is unstable. All the settings in the BIOS are still set to as thet were for the overclock and the speed set at 4.05Ghz (450 x 9) but on the post screen it's showing as 3.00Ghz!!

It's showing 3Ghz in cpuz as well. I've tried resetting to defaults, restarting and re-overclocking but it's not having any of it!

The mobo's a gigabyte P35C DS3r (rev1).

Any ideas most welcome!!!

Try manually clearing the bios using the cmos jumper on the board.

Also try replacing the motherboard battery if possible just in case.

This is exaxctly what used to happen to my ga-ds3l-p35 from time to time. The only way I could solve it was to flash the BIOS. Eventually I killed the board with a bad flash. Be careful.

are you sure its not just E0 stepping? make sure its turned of because CPU-Z will show the lower value

I think i'm at the most up to date BIOS for the MOBO, had to be for this particular processor. I'll give them a try at the weekend and see how I get on.

I didn't quite mean that. I had the most upto-date BIOS but once it gets itself in this state I had to flash to an older version and then BACK to the later version. Well thats not strictly true, regardless of what BIOS I already had or flashed to I HAD to flash the BIOS in order to get around this problem. At least for the next few months till it happend again

I had a similar issue with my GA 965P-DS4; I stuck a new GPU in, the clocks were still set in the BIOS but it posted at standard speeds.

I did can't remember the exact chain of events that got the o/c back but it was something similar to the above, reset to defaults and no power for ten minutes seemed to do the trick.
