Hi guys,

A really easy one I'm sure but it's got me foxed... I manage a small domain with about 20 desktop clients on it. I've been going through the dns entries on the server because, even though I use dhcp, there were a couple of ip conflicts. Anyway, I've got it down to just one machine but ping just won't work, it times out :(

Everything else works; users can log on, access to shared drives etc. I can even remote access it with vnc. Just can't ping. I turn windows firewall off and hey presto, ping works. Weird.

It's probably staring me right in the face but I need some pointers.

As you've already discovered - windows firewall.

Think there might be a rule you can enable to allow the pings to get through the firewall. At work i just disable the firewall on my VM's as they're on an internal network.

Fair do's! Just seems weird why all clients aren't affected, nothing else has changed. We're on an internal network too so I can turn of the firewall, just feels odd having to do so for just one client. I tried restoring the firewall's defaults to no avail.
