cant play Bioshock

Any time you install a new operating system, you really, really, REALLY! need to format your hard drive and do a clean install. It's no wonder you're having problems.

Let me get my mind around this.

Mal X "transfered" his game files (and other programs) from a hard drive which had windows XP installed on it (probably 32 bit we don't know) so these programs are optimized for XP. They are "transfered" to a hard drive running Windows 7 (must be 64 bit as you would be a numpty to install a 32 bit OS in 2012). Mal X complains about W7 being rubbish because his games don't work and it's all Microsofts fault for making a rubbish operating system.

Please tell me I am wrong as I had to read through thread a couple of times and was just stunned that someone would think that transfering programs from one operating system to another would work.

Depends on what he is copying across though. Also for your information, there is no difference between a file in a 32bit environment and a 64bit environment. Windows 64bit can run 32bit applications.

It's when you try to install 32 drivers on a 64bit operating system (don't ask) that things get hairy.

Not to mention some games need to be in the registry so wont work anyway.

i'm gonna do a fresh install from scratch, when i start up Win 7 there's a window that sais 32 bit or something similar, it appears at the desktop, but it's only there for a few seconds.... All the games dont seem to run very well.

when you game you see flashes on the screen and offset join marks on the screen running horizontally, the screen image isn't nearly as stable as my old GT 8800....it's only much faster and that's about it

it wasn't me that imported all of the games/ steam etc from my old pc, the shop did it for me, they were the ones that said it would be ok , they also did not install Asrock or the card drivers... maybe they didn't realise that my old rig was Win XP, because you cant really tell unless you look closely.

there are definitely conflict issues of some kind, as said, i deffo cant game via Win 7 and when my rig crashes i loose the OC, PLUS THE FAN SPEEDS ETC.....rig takes a long time to start up, it's even got the old Nvidia drivers and mine is AMD

can you remember playing the 1st Crysis, before the patches, when you used to see flashes on the screen, artifacts etc, well that is exactly what Bioshock and Borderlands look like.

i think the pc needs a totally fresh install with all of C Drive deleted first, because there is one hell of a lot of Win XP that he imported that i keep finding in the main operating system, i have at least 3 versions of Steam....according to steam i'm gaming on a public network, with different computers linked together, firefox mentioned this too...... bloody hell, what a mess...

I recommend not handing over your PC to a bunch of monkeys next time.

Read and learn how to copy over your important files (and I mean only the important personal files, photo's etc) somewhere safe, wipe EVERYTHING and format, do a fresh and full install of Win7, followed by your drivers. Then reinstall your programmes you use and re-download all your games from Steam.

Only then and when it is working fully, start overclocking again.

And don't even think about varnishing your GPU.

You know the best thing to do with private files etc you need to keep is to keep them on another drive away from your OS, this way if you do need to format you don't have to fart arse around moving everything.

i've reinstalled win 7, but cant do anything else till tomorrow, PC is still OCd :D Win 7 did not overwrite Asrock, rig seems ok now, i will upgrade and download all updates for Win 7/ AVG first, before visiting Steam..

this is also where i might have gone wrong last time too, i downloaded Steam first before anything else.

Format your hard drive > install windows > install motherboard drivers > graphics card drivers > windows updates > AV > everything else.

yea' i'm not very good with PCs, i'm too impatient, plus i fool around with files etc.

i was shocked to see the quality of the graphics in Bioshock, it looks ****, i thought it looked much better than this 4 years ago, even Crysis doesn't look that great either, for Bioshock i brought a cheap disc from PC World, it only cost 4 quid, i think it's a dumbed down version of the main game, it's called ``MAD``
