Can't record Windows Sound?

Got a problem, it's been driving me nuts for days, figured I'd try asking here. ;D

I wanted to record some PC gameplay as a thank you for an early Xmas gift, noticed that the final raw videos recorded had no sound. Checked all Fraps settings, it is set to record Windows sound. Tried out a bunch of other programs (other video recorders, a couple audio things like Audacity) and nothing is capturing Windows sound.

My PC is recently reformatted, but I have done this plenty of times using the exact same hardware and software setup before.

All my drivers are up to date (though as of my most recent update, I have even lost the Stereo Mix option in the Recording devices section, not that enabling it got me anywhere. :P) though I know on previous installs I was able to record as soon as installing Windows, my graphics driver and Fraps, nothing else. Just weirding me out, and getting so frustrated cause I can't find the problem. :/

Using Windows 7 64 Bit, Asus P6X58D-E motherboard and MSI N460 GTX Cyclone

Just about ready to reformat again in the hopes that it randomly fixes itself, wanted to see if I could get any advice first on what to try, or what could be the problem here. As of right now nothing is showing up under Recording Devices - I have "show disabled devices" ticked, but all that's there is 2 Unplugged Microphones and Line In from the HD Audio Device that comes with the graphics card.

Oh, one other infuriating detail; after rebooting my PC, if I open some video file and Fraps, and record that file, the raw recorded footage will have audio. But any further attempts (or capturing audio from a game) will fail to capture any audio, and even trying that same file again will result in a silent recording, have to reboot again for another try. What is that all about? XD

You are using onboard audio right?

Why don't you go to the realtek site and download the R2.70 drivers. See does that help.

Yeah, realtek drivers installed. Still nada. I'm to the point of assuming maybe some cable came loose inside my case. But like, if the HD Audio cable fell off my motherboard, I'd have no audio at all, right?
