I have recently bought a Seagate 7200.10 360gb HDD. Installation/setup of the new drive was easy, however I want to remove the old Maxtor 60gb and just have the Seagate. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

i can get the physical case out. what I mean is I need to have everything running on my new hdd so I can remove my old one. not sure what to do.

DO I have to install xp on the new drive or what??

any instructions around??

You can either install XP on the new drive and then migrate all your data from the Maxtor onto the Seagate or you can use something like Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image to copy the Maxtor across onto the Seagate in it's entirety. The latter option is the easier but be aware that it will wipe anything you currently have on the Seagate.

Once the data is copied over it should just be a case of removing the Maxtor and assuming the BIOS boot priority is correct everything should work. You also have the Maxtor as a backout position should anything go wrong.
