Hi, I am trying to set up my wireless network on my computer but it wont let me. I have a wireless network on the computers with vista on it and they are using a "wpa" code i think and the password is 12 characters. On my computer there is only wep and there are 2 options , 13 characters and 26 characters so I cant log in.. I installed the very old version of xp "home edition" which doesnt have the wirless network connection tool in control panel. Does anyone know what im doing wrong.. It can find the actual network but I just cant get it connected.. cheers

you need to tell us the wireless router model number and name "it should have a big label stuck on it to tell u" and on the computer is it a base unit or laptop ? a list off the connection options on the laptop or base unit, list please off the possible are WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] etc

"I installed the very old version of xp "home edition" which doesnt have the wirless network connection tool."

is it a wireless card , do you have a driver disc ?

the rangemax wireless router wpn824 v2.. there is 1 computer connected and 1 laptop all connected through the network.

the security is wpa2-personal in an "aes" type. On the desktop I want to connect there is only wep security available.. So they wont connect, and it only accepts 5 and 13 characters and my password is 12 characters (a wpa password). I have a wireless card but it wouldnt accept the driver because I need an update from windows.

on your router it has the option for EP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) encryption and WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access, Pre-Shared Key) security., That is wpa and wep
For example if you choose wpa in the router, then choose wpa in the laptop and Base unit.

btw download the service pack one and two from microsoft themselfs there are a few hundred meg for each ,

install service pack one then two then try the drivers for the wirelles card

have you tried MAC adresss instead off wpa wep etc

mine 834N is under setup , Wireless Station Access List, there is an option for Turn Access Control On,

then for each base unit "PC" or laptop get each off there mac adresses and put that in instead. much more secure.
