Cant transfer at 1Gbps?

Hey guys,

trying to figure out why I cannot achieve gig speeds over my LAN.

I'm transferring files from my desktop (vista 64 ultimate sp2) through a TP-Link TL-SG1005D to my Synology DS211j NAS box.

All have gigabit interfaces yet will only transfer at 100Mb/s
The devices are connected with cat 5e.

Any thoughts? Jumbo frames?

Using the vm super hub latest firmware r30

The network goes as such: vm sh -> tp-link switch -> desktop & nas

100MBps (MEGABytes), or 100Mbps (MEGABits)? Hopefully this doesn't sound patronising, but people often confuse the two.
 
What is the exact transfer speed? I doubt the NAS can send/receive at the full GB speed, especially if in RAID1. Think I get about 35MB/sec from my Synology.

i was careful with my b's :p I did mean Mbps. transfer goes at 95-99'ish % in task manager networking view and states the connection is connected at 100Mbps.

Hmm, i do have a raid 1 setup. but as i said it get 90+% on the 100Mbps interface in task manager

But the question remains, why would vista only connect the network interface at 100Mbps, it everything around it was 1Gbps?

I have the same setup as you and I get 40-45MB to nas and 50-55MB from Nas to PC.

Forget about jumbo frames as the super hub does not have that option and I have 2X 2TB hds in basic not raid.

EDIT=the speed I get is transferring 2TB or larger files, small files take ages.

Take out the switch and see what you get.

I have mine like this SH--switch into hub Nas into switch and Pc pluged into the SH.
Or you could connect the Nas and pc to the Hub leave out the switch.

So that's plug switch into SH and then plug your Nas and PC into the switch
or a better way is plug your nas and pc into the hub as it's got 4x1gig ports.

Just thought have you setup the Nas with a static ip with the SH?

I need the NAS available across the network so cant keep it connected to my desktop, but that said even if I do it still only connects to the interface at 100Mbps.

And yes it has a static IP, all my devices do :)

Does it show a static IP in the SH for the Nas?

Go into the SH options and pick Lan IP and you should see the Nas..Mac address..IP address where it says expires it should say *** STATIC IP ADDRESS **

No its in the DHCP reservation list.
MAC & IP

Guess its the same thing really.
 
Maybe that's why you are getting slow speeds. Read the manual how to setup the Nas with a router.
