Can't update 4.0.1 Firmware???!!!!

yesterday i plugged in my iphone 3gs to my pc, it then backed up/synced and was working fine.

message popped up saying 4.0.1 firmware is available and do i want to instal.
I clicked yes and away it went.

The the bar (with the words installing firmware) froze 2/3rds along. i left my pc running all night and it was still froze this morning with an error 14 code.

so now my phone is sitting with the cable > itunes logo on and i'm unable to restore it as it freezes at the same point.

now i'm unsure if kaspersky was causing this so i turned that off and tried yet still the same outcome.

Also i'm using the DD-WRT firmware on my D-Link 615 router (virgin media internet provider) so not sure if this is also causing it to freeze?

I'm booked into Apple at 2:30 but worried that when i restore my phone later it will freeze again.

Unless when i plug my phone in i select it as a new phone.

if anyone has advice on why it froze it would be appreciated

I got this on my 3G I then tried it on the laptop downstairs all on the same network and everything, it worked first time but I had to loose everything. I then wacked all my songs onto it on my PC and it was totally fine! I think Apple are sneaking in some of PCs little niggles!!

it's for all i believe. otherwise why would it prompt me to update

iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.

Also an update out for the iPad.

yep, its for all, just updated my 3G. It still runs like a dog though. Wish I could go back to 3.1.3

Did you ever save your shsh blobs?

I just downgraded last night.

shsh bloobs?, err you have lost me now mate.

Tried to downgrade numerous times with no joy, just gets stuck on itunes screen after restore. and neither blackreign or recboot will un freeze it (im on win 7 64bit so getting recboot to work is a nightmare)

it appears i'm able to restore my phone using the spare laptop at work (just trying now).

what my next question is, is when i go home to restore from a backup will it revert my OS back to 4.0??

it backed up last night so is all upto date but not sure if it reverts to the old firmware too

No, why would it? It's data and settings only.

sorted. used the spare laptop at work which has never had my phone plugged into and it downloaded 4.0.1 ok and then restored it using that firmware.

saved me a trip to the Apple store anyway.

but can't believe the amount of people also suffering with this.
