im in ubuntu and im trying to copy a file from the desktop /username/Desktop but the problem is when i use the command line it claims there are no files in that directory. but when i look using my mouse in the GUI or jus be browsing to there i can see them all!!! how can i bring them back in *** command line?

there is a lock on the folder as well of the desktop folder. i know i have to be sudo to move files but i cant even view them why??

well according to that there aint anything on your desktop.....

try

cd /home/username/Desktop
ls -l

just to make sure you are on the desktop.

can your post up a pic of your desktop / files you want to copy.

thats interesting it says there are no files on the desktop! hmm but when i go to my actual desktop i can see the files and folders. i see .tgz files and a folder and a shortcut to the terminal. i honestly dont understand because i can go to 'filesystem>home>wayne>Desktop> see the files on my current desktop.' [although the folder 'desktop' has a padlock on it.
