Can't wait any longer 7970 ordered!

I'm going to be coming from a Intel 3000 HD :D Recently built my own but didn't have enough money for a GPU so waiting until my Birthday (3 weeks) then will be buying one. Not sure if I want buy a 7950 then or wait until the new Nvidia cards though. Might just do what the OP did and just go buy one.

I was going to buy a 7950 but then I stumbled on the Asus 7970 for £420 and I couldn't say no. A 7950 with a good cooler on it wasn't that much cheaper! The stock cooler on the 7970 is actually really quiet, the only time I ever heard the fan was after a lengthy session on BF3 and that was only once the shooting stopped and it was loading the next map but less than 30 seconds after returning to desktop it was silent again. I've not overclocked it yet as I don't feel the need quiet yet, so I don't think i'll be fitting a waterblock anytime soon, plus my cpu is loving having all that extra cool water to itself! Idle temps a few degrees above ambient and top end almost 10c cooler than when the gpu was in the loop, so seperate loops next time im thinking.

Welcome to the club :-)

Sold my 5870 for £150 so made it a cheap(er) upgrade :-)

No point. As much as Llano is excellent I just didn't need it. Plus the low end Llano boards are more than the Intel counterpart by another £10.

Yes Llano is rather excellent, I was shocked tbph, but haven't you been advising to get the best for the job to save future upgrades?;)
