there's no way that Gerrard has been the best english player this season. saying that i have no problem with Capello picking him as captain for this game, he would definitely need to raise his game if he wants the position permanently though.

Ferdinand has captained our side a few times, most recently in the 2-0 win at Portsmouth last week. Neville was named Captain because it was a logical choice to give it to one of his 3 boys (and the other 2 had it first - Giggs and Scholes).

Ferdinand hasn't been in bother for a long, long time. Basically after Ferguson gave him the hairdryer for being in that restaurant with Kenyon. (which is also the reason he wasn't named as Captain until recently for those uneducated on the matter).
It's a temporary position, we're waiting for Fabio to appoint Rio and ensure the whole of Manchester (oops, Middlesbrough) is perfectly happy.

rio ferdinand has been better this season, his form has been monumental and he's pretty much ditched all of his errors. i did say that i agree with gerrard being given the captaincy for this game though? the only point i took umbrage to was you saying he's been the best english player this season not that he was qualified for the captaincy.
Really? Gerrard started the season on fire, had a dip in form (2-3 games) just after he broke his toe then since then has been playing well again. 16 goals in 33 games (from cm) and countless assists.
