Capital One Cup Semi-Final ** Spoilers ** [20/21/27/28th January 2015]

If he gets an extra game ban I think it'll be against Burnley at home so might as well go for it.
Plus he'll be fresh for the games v PSG and the CC1 final.

Nothing to lose I suppose. It's highly unlikely to be increased and even if it is, it's only Burnley at home. Had it not been City this weekend then I guess they wouldn't have bothered trying.

Would be good if he got of with it though.
After all Skrtel's elbow and Vertwronghen's throat grabbing aren't even being looked at so fair's fair and all that.

Had it have been anybody else I wouldn't have cared. I'd have loved to see JM's reaction had Costa been charged with both stamps and the eye gauge on Gerrard.

Stamping on someones leg is potentially a broken leg , grabbing someones throat is at worst going to give them a bruise!

It staggers me with your posts in the football Stadium how you are Don. I assume you give a valuable service in sub forums I don't read.

For whatever reason, and I certainly don't agree with it, giving somebody a little slap or stamping on someone's leg and breaking it both carry the same punishment.

And I suspect that was slightly tongue in cheek from JG ;)

That was the most dangerous thing I’ve seen on a football field for many years, he could have been killed. Vertonghen should be banned for a long time.

Diego Costa: Chelsea striker gets three-match ban for stamp

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been banned for three matches for stamping on Liverpool's Emre Can.

The 26-year-old will miss Saturday's Premier League clash with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge as well as games against Aston Villa and Everton.

The Football Association charge, which Costa denied, related to an incident in the 12th minute of Tuesday's League Cup semi-final second leg.

Costa, a £32m signing, has 17 goals in 19 Premier League games this season.

The incident was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.

What an idiot. :p

stamp
verb
bring down (one's foot) heavily on the ground or on something on the ground.

Stand still, take a normal step, is that bringing your foot down heavily, did the room shake or the floor make a huge thudding sound... I'm going to guess no or you're 500lbs or something.

A stamp is when you go out of your way to bring your leg down faster/heavier than normal, you're purposefully putting more power into it. In both cases I would say Costa stepped on the other guy though the second one he did jump up but it looks like anyone else trying to jump over someone with flailing legs underneath him. Considering Skrtel's legs were constantly changing position there is no where he predicted where they'd be when he initially tried to get out of the way and he still came down relatively gently, he didn't bend his leg them stamp down.

With the first one there was also no power behind the leg when it went down. He trod on him, but certainly didn't look like a stamp.

My mistake - I thought I had heard the 'huge thudding sound' which would have clearly marked it as an official stamping action, but now I see that it was in fact just a 'normal step' that went tragically wrong.

Anyway, landing with your entire body weight is worse than a standing stamp, if anything it would probably best be described as a trample. :)

I don't think Costa had much chance of the appeal being successful as apparently the independent commission hearing panel was made up of Jamie Redknapp, Martin Skrtel and Purdy.

Couldn’t find a more fair and unbiased panel like that anywhere on this planet. Apparently is was a sealed verdict. :D

I just watched a compilation of Costa's antics on Youtube. I knew he was a tough, dirty player, but there's footage of him gobbing two big mouthfuls of spit into his hand and then flinging it at other players. What a scummy, dirty *******.

The description of stamp above uses the word heavily. Costa did not stamp, or step heavily on him. Prob should have been a yellow. Violent conduct is ridiculous!
