The biggest issue with the Ox is, he hasn't improved at all since he joined Arsenal, not in the slightest. Ramsey had one good season where his shots happened to end up in the goal rather than not, that was it. His all around game in his good season wasn't very good, he's really poor defensively.
He runs around playing like a better player, he tries flicks, if one comes off out of 5-10 a game he'll keep doing it as if the one confirms he's the next Messi. he shoots from outside the box without threatening in the slightest.
Wenger said something the other day about how Ox will improve if he only believes it, his development depends on his belief... and I'm thinking this is why players don't progress at Arsenal because rather than tell the player what he's doing wrong Wenger has very strange ideas about how he should improve.
It's also worth remembering that Flamini is not bad pushing forwards, he's just never allowed to. I wouldn't call him our most defensive minded midfielder just one of our most disciplined players. When asked to play left back he plays left back, when asked to play DM he does. Last night he pretty much played as a more normal central mid with Arteta without the legs to get forward the defensive mid. Given the role to push forward he did so pretty well.
Wilshere is the same, when we played him as a pretty much out and out defensive mid in his first year he had the discipline to stay back and didn't look much of a threat. The few times we play him more as a no.10 or further forward and give him the scope to attack then he does that excellently also.
Waiting to see when Coquelin is back, Wenger gave the impression they have no idea how serious it was beyond missing the game last night, hopefully he's back soon. If he's out longer term and we end up playing Arteta loads we're screwed.
