Forgive me I just woke up, but im staying at my parents house at the moment on a lovely little quiet housing development, only there is a Toyota People carrier one of the neighbours at the rear of the house has and the alarm is constantly going off. Not just every half hour, but every 30 seconds or so for 30 second bursts.

Isn't their a rule about car alarms having to STFU at some point, not that im going to call the noise police or anything, im just curious.

If the alarm is going off all by itself, and the car's fine... then logic would dictate that if you put a brick through a window, the alarm should stop.

Worth a try I think.

The neighbours in question must be out for the day?
Or, like me once, heard a car alarm going off constantly and took a fair while to realise it was my own car...
Perhaps if they saw someone snooping round the vehicle making sure it's not been broken into, they might clock on.

If you lift one end of the car up so its at a 30 degree angle the car thinks its being towed and the alarm stops. Some mechanic told me that once.

...nope, scrap that it was Arnold Schwarzenegger in Twins ;)

Even if it did, it would be alarm specific and certainly not a universal thing ;)

It'll drain the battery at some point. Or you could break in with a coathanger and turn it off :p Don't know about the legalities, though you're not meant to sound your horn unless in an emergency between 11pm-7am or something similar (in residential areas) so maybe there's a similar policy with car alarms? Dunno. It's Disturbing The Peace anyway.

To bump this,

There is a car (99 Passat saloon) with its alarm doing the same thing - alarm goes on for 30s, then stops for a few minutes, rinse and repeat. That's been going on for 3 hours or so. >:(

Anything I can do or anyone I can call? It's a public car park in a residential area, so it could be anyone's.
