Car Battery in winter

Most cars have a simple way to reset the BMS mine you flash the high beam 5 times, press the brake pedal 3 times, battery light starts flashing, job done.
mine needed the windows to go down and back up.... thats what it said on the dashboard warnings that pop up when i switch the iginition on

Scrap men love a battery, I've literally blinked and my old bike/car batteries have magically disappeared :D

If your alternator if faulty and not charging the battery there's little point getting a new one. You can diagnose to see whether the battery is being charged by using a multimeter, or asking a local garage to check it.

If the car is even remotely modern you can't test an alternator that simply. Mine often reads 12.6v while running they're pretty smart systems these days they try to prolong the battery life.

its been checked by the RAC and by halfords before fitting the required new battery as per their testing meter

I'm having issues starting the car after a very cold night ( minus temps ), i have a jumper pack, and when i add that it starts immediately. is there anything i can do at nighttime ( except remove battery) to help with the issue?

maybe a thermal blanket over the engine bay etc etc

TIA
As I often don't drive much or for long I have one of those little maintenance chargers, in the cold weather I'll throw it on the car every couple of weeks unless I do a nice long run.
As it's got quick connector for the battery it only takes about a minute to plug it in under the bonnet and into the outdoor socket next to where I park.

I also have a little USB charger that goes in the lighter, sorry 12v socket and it displays the battery voltage if it's not powering anything so I have a quick visual reference for the battery voltage/how well the alternator is running whenever the ignition is on.

a simple way for sure if you are well into the car.

not the usual driver knows anything about this stuff.

That is what Google was invented for. It took me less than a minute to find it for an Insignia.

Changing a car battery is no more difficult than emptying the hoover in all reality but Halfords will charge you £25 for the privilege.

I had to remove the airbox on mine and take off the earth battery chassis cable. And that's the hardest battery I have ever changed.
4 bolts and 1 hose clip in total plus the two battery terminals. Really is a DIY job for almost all people.
I'd be surprised if the likes of Halfords even bother resetting the BMS.

Its only an easy DIY job if you have the tools to do it... funnily socket sets and spanners are the only tools i dont posses, as i have no requirement for them. I let the garage do my car work when needed, i got better things to do with my time than fiddle with a car that gets driven around 2k miles a year

Not used bolts for anything in the house ./ fence ...
but indeed the stop/start(disabled anyway) battery I have now is going to cost twice it's primitive predecessor, with some research needed on protocol to reset any bms;
just cut/remove the black wire first, the flexi-head spanner used on previous annoyingly always had the possibility to short across the terminals.

nope not needed any bolts or spanners while working on my house, fence, shed, decking... all proper structural screws with impact driver. likw i said i have no care or desire to get under the bonnet of a car.

leave that to the petrol heads

Sounds more like the instructions to get some action down the local dogging sites
