Car Battery

just replaced my battery, the indicator on it was showing healthy but it clearly wasn't giving the cold cranking amps required then failed to start on a very cold morning .got the new one from Tanya ,half price of halfrauds price and next day delivery

I disable stop start every time I start the car on mine.

Same here, coded the car so it’s disabled whenever I start it up. Car was registered in December 2014 so the battery is at least 7 years old and still doing great. Then again, I only really do long trips in the car anyway which probably does it some good.

I’ve got to press a button each time I start on mine, I’ve got into the habit of pressing it but occasionally forget particularly if in a rush like the other day when my car was picked up for a service.

I started the car up and drove it round the car park to make it easier for the driver from the dealership to find his way out and forgot to disable it.

Mines a 16 plate and I fully use Stop/Start, still on original battery and perfect. Gets used a lot as well.
Really don't know why people turn it off.

Yes same on my Golf when I had it (13 plate), worked without issue and only sold it last year.

You’ve disabled it, but drive in a way that doesn’t require it anyway

If you’re pottering about town on the odd occasion but doing long trips the rest of the time, you’re just disabling it for no added benefit.

Mainly because I want to give the battery an easier life.

Why do you need to give something that is designed to cope with recurring stop/start cycles "an easier life"?

Disable stop start, traction control.... it's like a bloody pre-flight check on an aircraft.....

Why would you need or want to disable traction control? Presumably you'll explain that to your insurer if you ever are involved in an incident

Indeed, but I was coding some other things in the car anyway so I didn’t go out of my way to do it.

I can still manually enable it if I wanted to. There is also a coding option to have it remember its last setting when you start the car up which is probably the more useful one to have. I’ll change it one day.

Pretty certain that cars with stop/start technology use batteries that have been designed with frequent stop/start in mind.

The car is also intelligent enough to disable stop/start for things like when the car is warming up, or it detects the battery voltage is at an optimum level.

Disabling it is unlikely to make any difference.

The starter, battery and whole charging system are designed with it in mind. But you know how it goes their are a lot of armchair experts that know better.
