Car boot sale - Contactless card reader.

Bought a rtx 2080 from a recycler at carboot a few months ago at the peak of the gpu shortage for £15

A bit of the PCB was broken off near the PCIE connector but was a unpopulated part of the PCB, no traces or components.

Worked perfectly!

The charges are ridiculous I bet he does it that way so you don't feel like you are handing real money over. I bet his prices are ridiculous for what is in reality a minimum wage job.

Charges are not ridiculous by any means, Sumup & iZettle charge 1.69% & 1.75% respectively. Larger merchants with proper merchant accounts can get Debit rates down in the 0.3% range (0.2% range if you are lucky), that's a few pence on a £100 payment. The only ones to be careful of are Stripe & Square as they have pence per transaction fees in the 10-20p range which makes it expensive for merchants selling low value items. Oh, and Paypal, now their fees are a rip of & i've no idea why anyone would have used their card reader.

In response to the OP however, have you tried Vivawallet? If you have a compatible phone with NFC i think you can use Vivawallet and your phone can directly take contactless. Not sure on the details exactly as we are still in the process of becoming a reseller so as I can't actually sell it yet I have only skimmed over the info they sent us.

Not everyone carries cash no, but you would be a bit dense to go booting without some.

If it's a big enough car boot sale you would hope it had an ATM either nearby or a portable one there. I know they require power and internet though but I am sure if the organiser had one they could easily make money by providing one as they usually charge per withdrawal and you get a cut.
