Car booties

This irks me so much these days. Charging for people to come in and spend money.

Could you imagine the carnage if Tesco or Asda started to do the same?
Sorry to clear things up, it's a pound to park on the site not an entry fee..
it's on the edge of an industrial estate, I know some people park at the B&Q or on the roads but I don't know the parking restrictions so I rather just pay the pound.

Some people are really into the car boot sales.

I had a friend who used to wake up at 6:30am to get to the car park for the bargains.

6:30! that's a lye in, I'm normally up at 6am regardless. If I'm not going to a carboot, I'm going for a jog on work days or the gym on days off. otherwise I feel that I'm just wasting the day.

Boot rage becoming a problem

I stopped going to one, as it was so badly organised/managed.. people was just pushing in when queuing up in the cars, people was just setting up stores everywhere. people just pushing and shouting. I go for the enjoyment and not to fight to save a few pounds, so I just stopped going to it.

I love a mooch round a bootfair, seldom buy much these days but in the past I've picked up a good amount of retro consoles etc (which I really need to get sold as they are in the loft collecting dust now) and some great stainless steel kitchen wares.

Last summer I got myself a nice little George Forman grill, perfect when I want to quickly cook a little something when I'm home by myself (which is most of the time).

I wanted to go somewhere different today but didn't want to risk going to a rubblish one.. so I went to my normal place.
There was no "wow" items but I did pickup
a supreme money gun - £2
a psyduck plush from recenty movie - £5
two self dev books - £1
some baby disney flipflops for my great niece as her mom as been messaging about flipflops for her all weeek as they going aboard. she didn't like them as they were "too boyish", so I gave them to the girl down the street for her daughter as she was tidying her car as I was going to the charity shop to donate them. -50p

I did manage to pickup a bowser figure, £2.45.. super mario jigsaw (mainly for the tin it came in) £2 and a poker set for £6 as a figet toy with the chips for £6 pounds from different charity shops this week as I was off work.

I didn't think car boots were a still thing tbh. It's been a good 20+ years since I last went to one. I can always remember wanting to get cap gun ammo rolls, marbles and those weird paper/rock things that came in sawdust that you threw on the ground that would make a pop. Good times!

They certainly are, but i can't say i've seen any of that stuff about in a long time. Knock off lego on the other hand is rife here.

I had to stop myself from getting a tube of marbles as I still not played with the tin of marbles that I got for christmas one year, makes a good figet toy during meetings.
Yes you can still get devil bangers, some chap was selling them at a store and I was looknig for a few rolls of cap gun to go with my spud gun that I got the other week.

It's all nostalgia... sometimes you just have to stop yourself from buying stuff that you had or wanted as a kid.

I'm on the look out for old micro machines.. the metal ones, some chap was selling the new plastic ones the other week.

we have two big lego resellers at the carboot that I go to, there's one selling the friends cafe set for 80 pounds... temping...

Oh the nostalgia of being a 70's kids and going with your parents to any organised show or other open air display and your sole concern was finding where the Joke Shop van was parked in the cluster of trade vans.

Picked up a monster score this morning, probably my best haul at a carboot. Loads of boxed retro systems, ps1, ps2, ps3, gamecube, Xbox og, some hand helds. About 300 games, loads of ps1 (including silent hill) GameCube, ps2 and ps3 games. Thank god my car was literally next to the stall I got everything from.

I seen the lady the week before and she said she would bring me loads of gaming stuff. Luckily I seen her coming in and she remembered, so saved it all for me. Felt a bit bad as loads of people behind me but just cleared it all out. If it wasn’t me would be someone else.

Never feel bad about getting a good deal, especially where the seller is happy as well.

My dad knows quite a lot about antiques. Back in the 90’s, early 2000’s, he used to pick up some really good stuff each week, usually from the crates that sellers throw loads of what they think is all rubbish in, and flog it for about 50p an item.

It dried up badly in the mid 2000’s when the internet started to really blow up. It was just too easy for sellers to check out everything they were selling to find hidden gems. Happened with charity shops too. You won’t find a big profit in them any more either, as all the stuff, apart from dvd’s and things, is researched.

It’s a bit funny when it comes to researching stuff they are selling at Carboot’s. You will get people asking for £40 for a battered Nintendo Wii, and in the next breath the same seller will offer you a gameboy for a fiver

My mate picked up an excellent condition series x controller for £2, and same seller wanted a tenner for a ancient tomtom.

Because of this thread I've had a few car boot sale buyers video's show up on Youtube, and they seem to make a living from buying and selling on on Ebay.

From the few I've seen, it appears trading standards and the police visit often and close stalls down and there are a few kick offs.

Still not for me though.

I used to like going to see what fishing gear was on offer. Often after a family death or separation a family member would do a car boot and nobody really knew expensive fishing gear if they saw it.

Nowadays with Google lens and eBay sellers can get a good idea of the value of an item and fishing gear is priced more accurately, so I don't bother.

Also, I have too much fishing gear now anyway :)
